As it sits now tanks are the only role with variety and interesting gearing options imo. The changes will likely make them as bland as gearing the other classes. If anything I think this game needs more gearing variety, not less.

But this would require bringing variety to every other single jobs gearing options, which is more likely to happen in an expansion. And what are variety and choice in vertical progression MMOs anyway ? Just merely an illusion. Theorycrafters will always find the best possible option and every reasonable/good player will follow this.


Absolutely, but the due to the way the crafted stuff worked with the vit/str melding, it allowed for multiple routes to the same ends (maximizing str while staying on vit meta for hp in savage), granted some combination were better than others but it allowed variance that could be utilized based on player and team skills to further min max output, it also allowed for alternatives to accessory availability and a sense of horizontal progression that has been badly missing. While your hyperbole is an interesting conversation, it's hardly a good reason for further deconstructing some of the few interesting things left in this game as far as stats go. They gave SCH and WHM new dps abilities in Heavensward (WHM even got an additional dps ability at max level in ARR). That is a pretty clear sign that they want to healers to have the option to dps in endgame content (or that they don't know what they are doing).

The DpS abilities Scholars and White Mages get in HW look to be there more to prevent them from falling to far behind on the damage curve in Solo content.
Also, WHM's final dps abilities in ARR were at 45 and 46 and not 50.


SCH has new abilities?
I didn't know, never used any past 50.
Ah right holy was at 45.
So 2 out of the 5 HW WHM skills are for solo content only (which is only leveling really)? Plus Assize which deals 300 potency aoe damage while healing?

Well Holy was nerfed pretty hard but they got a 50 potency AoE(Aero III) plus assize which is on a pretty long CD(90s)
