Yeah it kinda sucks. Melding stuff to everything else should be pretty good for the game though.
Making tomestone/raid gear able to be affixed with materia is definitely a step in the right direction, and I am curious what they mean by "much stronger". It seems like a weird solution unless they're making changes elsewhere, though, because in 3.2 you'd be forced into either picking VIT or STR.
e: Thinking on it, unless the crafted accessories are stronger than the farmable tomestone accessories, why not just get the tomestone accessories and meld those?

It's unfair for tanks to shell out more gil for melded accessories, so we decided to make it so that all classes will need to meld materia to their gear for maximum efficiency.
From what the translators are saying, you can still meld Primary stat materia into true slots, but will no longer be able to advanced/forbidden/over meld primary stat materia.
This will cap additional Primary stat melds to 15 per slot until higher Tier Materia are added. Since all currently known slotted accessories only have one slot this puts an effective cap of +15 Str, +15 Vit or +11 Pie on melded accessories.
Not necessarily. There should still the possibility of getting "Perfect" Pink pieces. Blue Gear should stay at the same rough baseline power, but will now be customizible.

Think you missed the point here, that for classes to be played best they have to shell out for materia.
It's not customizable unless the melded materia changes stats, not adds to it.
If it adds stats to existing ones, it'll be better than your baseline gear.
So sorry that you spent months working on A4S to get that bis tank chest, you now need to meld 5 V's into it for bis.
Please look forward to it.
Months of working on AS4 and you didn't have time to save up some gil/materia to put in the chest when you get it?Think you missed the point here, that for classes to be played best they have to shell out for materia.

Thank God. I didn't feel like spending millions upon millions of gil just to be labeled "good."

This is also probably relevant, from the Q&A thread ( http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...=1#post3389641 ):
It's a little vague (they'll probably elaborate later), but this seems to suggest we might be seeing adjustments to the damage formulas for tanks. Many of those attempting instanced raids in the early stages tend to use advanced materia melding on accessories, which lead to tanks being required to meld STR or VIT. Due to this there were times where the melded accessories were better than the accessories which dropped from clearing the instance. In order to resolve this issue, in Patch 3.2 we will be making adjustments that will change the damage calculations of tanks into a more appropriate state.

Might have bad news then, because if they don't handle the arrival of Tier V materia properly EVERYONE is going to have to spend millions of gil on ALL their gear to fully meld it as all raid/tomestone gear is now going to have materia slots.
It's going to turn into what WoW was with enchanting/gemming gear. You get an awesome new item but can't really use it until you meld/enchant it, and people turning up to raids with ungemmed gear would be chastised and kicked out. They're treading a dangerous road - i hope they implement this properly or they'll lose a lot of players who love raiding but don't like grinding gil.
