How many lots will actually open up?

I don't think it will be nearly as high as people are hoping. A lot of people might not be seen around their houses by people but that doesn't mean they don't go there enough to keep it. even people not active that i know are all pretty much returning to add co owners and break again, or take a small chance it might be fun again for them. even im guilty of not being around my house much since my spouse cant go there and as a fc leader i feel i should be around the fc more. That doesn't mean I have any intention of wanting to give it up, it just means once you have it you'll be surprised how little you use it.

Co-owners won't reset the countdown, but they can decorate! My friends want to deck out my house. (It's just filled with minions and enquire within paintings)

Someone with four houses among their alts on my server returned to the game recently. I'm sure that sort of thing will continue to happen during the first 45 days.

^This. I think people will be surprised on how few plots will actually open up. However, even if a ton of plots were to become available, there's no way it would come close to meet the demand.

If they were to boot out everyone who hadn't logged on 45 days prior to the patch, then we'd see a ton of open lots. With the email warning system they're doing, we probably will get a few people coming back to the game just to protect their plots, but I'd guess the majority of those obviously empty houses are still going to be reclaimed after the 45 days.

As far as Ishgard housing goes, unless they change the way Ishgard access works, it's going to be pretty hard for Free Companies to even consider getting houses there, as it precludes any new players who don't have level 50 classes from even seeing the FC house until they level up and finish the 2.X storyline.

i know a guy who have 2 privates and a fc house and he does nothing with them, he must be thinking "just screw the others!!.."

Let's be real.. housing reclamation is not aimed at providing active players with more housing options - that is the absolute last thing Square Enix wants to happen. Nothing will discourage a potential re-subscriber more than finding out they lost their home.

Instead, the whole point is to "encourage" inactive players to become active, paying subscribers again. The developers are infinitely more interested in seeing an inactive player return to pay a month's subscription fee just to save their house, rather than providing an active player with an open plot of land. And if that inactive player's return rekindles their interest in the game and turns them into a paying subscriber for multiple months, then all the better for SE's business.

I will be surprised if more than 10 houses across a server free up, and even more surprised if said parcels end up in the hands of a non-home owner rather than existing home owners who just want to flip the property for gil. This whole "solution" is a huge joke.
