Just got wheeling thrust.... Can someone explain the point of it to me?

So I just hit 58 dragoon and unlocked wheeling thrust and I just don't understand the point of it?

It's the same thing as fang and claw but you have to do it from the rear. So basically you're just losing your 100% chance of knowing where you need to strike next for a 50/50 chance of knowing... For no extra benefit?

Is there some hidden buff I'm missing? Cause this just seems like a nerf to me. I could understand if wheeling thrust was stronger or if it extended BotD longer than fang and claw does so then it would be a chance to get a stronger move than fang and claw in exchange for not knowing where you need to strike from, but it doesn't, so it's useless.

Just like all other positional skills, it's intended to make your play more active and to widen the gap between decent players and really good ones. This way, DRGs now have four positionals that if executed properly add a fair bit of potency to our rotation.

With that in mind, I do feel the mechanic of the 4th combo moves could've been implemented differently - for me, having them triggered randomly was really unexpected as I thought Fang and Claw would be the 4th skill in the TTT combo and Wheeling Thrust would be the fourth skill in the IDC combo.

Its a dual mechanic. The point of staggering it's implementation a few levels apart is to get used to the fourth tier combo with the new rotation first and then be introduced to the increased difficulty floor of the mechanic later. Having it all dropped on you at once would be a bit crucial. So they broke it up to allow you to ease into it. That isn't a nerf, it's the intended mechanic for the fourth tier combo. Dragoons can put out massive amounts of damage now and to offset this complexity was added to their positionals.

It's a buff not a nerf.Considering your main rotation is with chaost trust anyway which is from rear it means you have a 50/50 chance of not having to move from rear to flank to use the skill.Granted it's extra movement involved when useing the other thrust combo.Overall it benefits you more than hinders you in rotations.

I'm sorry but looking at it all I see is a gate to geriskogul, I wish I hadn't done this quest until I was 60 already. Can you honestly say if the level cap was 58 -making wheeling thrust your final skill- that you'd even bother to do this quest to unlock it when you could simply not do it and stick to using just fang and claw?

This is still technically a nerf, maybe it is an intended raising of difficulty of the mechanic, but that doesn't change the fact that it came with no benefits, giving us another separate and useful skill to go along with it or even just a slightly higher potency than fang and claw as an incentive to actually do the quest at 58 rather than 60 (when we do get an incentive in geriskogul) would be something I could understand.

its just an added complexity to the job. having just fang and claw would be boring if i had to move to the flank after every combo. wheeling thrust and the RNG factor just makes the job more fun to play imo. its here to stay so get to 60, learn your rotation and find out for yourself how much fun it is having both and geoskogul

It's been discussed to death. It's basically to add complexity for Geirskogul. Don't worry, its not too hard.

It's a 50% chance to not have to move after Chaos Thrust.

Seems like a buff to me.
