I'd love to see a caster tank that feels more magickey and less edgey than drk. I'd rather it be based off blue mage than red mage, but I wouldn't mind seeing aspects of the less common mystic knight and/or rune knight worked into either one.

I liked everything, except dual wield. Save that for a DPS class.
Rapier please.
Honestly Red Mage is the perfect tank job. Since Tanks Heal/Strike/DPS.
Echoing the "Give them a rapier, not DWing" but other than that, this is exactly what I want out of an RDM tank.
Rapier and Buckler, right out of FF1. Don't get me wrong, I had a lot of fun soloing certain content as a RDM/NIN in FFXI, subjobs were a thing, which they are not in FFXIV. Dual wield is overrated, and their are too many Kirito fanboys, "Ima a solo player" out there that a RDM dualwielding tank class would be more catering to a select base than actually being a fulfilling and back to the basics Jack of all trades, Master of none that is the FF RDM.
...
fiiiiinnnnneeeee...... while Ive wanted to see a dual wield parry tank for over 20 years Ill compromise with a single rapier IF and ONLY IF as part of their combo attacks the off hand is used to short jab a melee type spell to the face or gut of the target, like a single target flash to the face as a 2nd step enmity attack with a flashy final step rapier slash
(this way I can still rp im a dual wielding parry tank)
and Ive never played ffxi, im a dnd raised guy. and i always palyed a dual weidl parry specfialist with cure light wounds and the covet grease spell(which would be the PERFECT red mage stun spell xD gesture to the ground, it get dark and target slips and gets stunned for the standard amoutn of time
)

My OCD likes there being a Black Mage DPS, a White Mage healer, and Red Mage tank. Also the kind of sort of Red Mage from FF Type-0 had duel foils true, and its not like they dont take liberty in this game but.... I think I like the idea of a single rapier/saber and a free hand to cast with. As for tank armor, most jobs dont have their classic look until the mid-40s anyway. Just make the AF gear sexy. They sort of hinted at this already being a thing.
The tank coat from the library is red.

The whole idea of a more elegant tank is kinda growing on me, using RDM as a base what if they did it like this...
Weapon instead of a regular rapier how about a dual aspect weapon similar to NiN and MNK with one side being the sword, the other a small buckler similar to Scottish weaponry.
And what if the stance switching could be done as the En-elemental style?
Ex- tank stance could be Enfire giving a passive boost to enmity and defence and a penalty to dmg and adding cast times to certain skills.
Ex dps stance could be En-thunder unlocking certain AoE skills and increasing base dmg by 20%
Ex tank oh s**t button En-Aqua adds buff fluidity for 15 sec increasing parry rate. Unlocks skill (let\\'s call it elegance) where the next 2 physical hits are dodged with a penalty afterwards.
Finally giving an ability that let\\'s you switch your Auto attacks from doing physical dmg to doing magical damage giving credence to the whole Spell blade theme

As far as I love the idea of a Red Mage tank, I don't think we'll see a new sword tank anytime soon. They should release some sword DPS jobs. Unless they're planning to implement the talent tree system in 4.0, then we could see SAM having a tank and a DPS tree, RDM having tank, DPS and healer, DRK and WAR having tank and DPS too etc...
That's unlikely to happen, but they hinted we'd be getting SAM then, so there's your sword using DPS.As far as I love the idea of a Red Mage tank, I don't think we'll see a new sword tank anytime soon.
