That's a cultural thing, and not necessarily true in every culture. In Eorzea, the only reason that this inequality persists is that the design team have deliberately allowed it to happen for so long. There's no cultural, political or fashion reason why a guy can wear a plain long skirt and not a spring skirt, for example; it's simply a persistent failure to cater for half of the playerbase.

(In real life a man can also wear any kind of hat a woman can without any adjustments, unless there's something I've been missing all this time!)

Not that I don't want to see Highlanders and Roegadyn in bunny suits, but the shoulderless top and bent ears have been something people have asked for since they saw the early promotional pictures for the set only to find one of the the two available instead of both. Wasn't a huge demand, mind, but it was considered a strange omission given they had characters wearing them side by side in the group shots.

The problem with this is that there were concerns raised about the imbalance with gender-locking at the exact same time; those bunny ears in the early promotional shots were coveted by players with male characters too. The complaints of the players with female characters were heeded and you got your sexier version of the bunny suit. We got told to sit tight and wait, and got nothing - not even the parts which could easily be unlocked for the other gender without a redesign. There's been a very obvious double standard at work for some time.

Female characters get three female only new glamour sets this patch.

Just by reading the patch info there are 7 female only new gear and 2 male only new gear, without counting the Minfilia outfit (that i guess is a 5 set piece). If I'm not mistaking this will make female only glamour at a number near 40 gear piece. vs 2 for male. (and those 2 pieces have a female counterpart, so we can see it as no exclusive set?)

If we are being honest yes this is the first male only gear we had in a loooong time (+6months to make two pieces of gear oh yeah) but fo real though'

Hmm, I don't remember the sailor shirt ever being gender-locked at any point. The set is listed as unisex in the 2.2 patch notes when it was added. I actually don't recall there ever being a precedence for something changing gender or having its gender restriction removed, but I don't generally watch those things so I could be wrong.

Sailor outfit was supposed to be male exclusive, but during the process of making it, they decided to make it uni-sex, because it fits and looks (I agree with them) very cute on a female avatar. I rememeber them saying this during a Live Letter, sadly I do not know which one.

2 players pays the same amount of money every months, both care as much about glamour, but one of them has access to more than 30 gear more than the other player... just because they decided to play as the 'right' gender. Those who made the 'bad choice' have been asking for ages for a change and the one time they don't get ignored or made fun of, it still ends up not happening.

Meanwhile female characters ask for a second bunny outfit set and oh surprise they get it soon after. (I'm still waiting for the alternate version of the Ul'dahn male vest.)

Oh okay, so he meant they were previewed a certain way and changed before it went live. I thought he meant they were added to the game as gender-specific and later had the restriction removed (which has still so far never happened). We're on the same page now.

The dumbest part is where the entire devblog post about the Thavnairian Bolero is presented as, "This is for the guys" and "This is the male version", with all guys in the images showing it off, and then they appended a little note in an edit to state that, "j/k this is unisex HAHA".

At least fairly present it as unisex. Fairly tell us, "No lol, we have no male-exclusive gear" instead of pretending you care about the imbalance in gender-locked gear and then showing you don't. This is Square's major failing here, I feel: they're dishonest in how they communicate how they're dealing with this. A while back a rep said they were going to address the imbalance and create male-specific gear, but it looks like they decided against that after all. It's at this point that even if a rep says that they plan to add "male Scion outfits", there's probably no one in this thread who'd believe them if they claimed it would be male-exclusive Scion gear.

Square's at a point where they have to win back trust on their claims by following through on it.

looking at that patch notes i noticed 3 items in particular. 2 items called they high Justaucorps and high house bustle (assuming these are this games 2 glamour items for this patch). these are locked for male and female respectively. and the new bunny outfit which has all its parts (including the ears) gender-locked.
