When will players learn? Should they not have grasped the fundamentals by the time they've reached Garuda NM? They had to have cleared Ifrit and Titan, so the players have experienced pass/fail DPS checks, raidwide damage, dodging special AoE's, basic knowledge that they should have for any boss. The only new concept introduced in that fight is the destructible pillars, which is nothing more than a DPS check with a side of positional awareness. That's the only thing the fight teaches you, positioning to avoid damage to the pillars, positioning to AoE plumes without getting LoS'd, positioning to dodge Garuda's attacks, positioning to stay inside the tornado AoE. Garuda teaches you that where you place your character is important to safely handle the mechanics, nothing more.

It's not a bad thing for players to fail from time to time. It makes them ask "What went wrong?" or "How can I do better?" If a player fails to hide behind the rocks for Garuda's shriek, or stands too close to them and gets them cleaved, do you think they'll fare better in AK HM's first boss? If they can't DPS the plumes fast enough, how will they handle Nidhogg's Sable Price? If they can't heal consistently through damage, how can they handle the Vault? Learning your class is one thing, everyone has different speeds at which they learn, some are more dedicated to optimization than others, and no one can teach you your playstyle. However, learning the fundamentals of PvE is a necessity. If a player doesn't know the basics, how will they ever learn an encounter that expects you to know the basics, then piles real mechanics on top of it?
