I think FFXIV is headed in the right direction, though in saying that I wouldn't recommend it to anyone I know or praise it. Its nothing outstanding my any means just borderline so the score of 51 suits it quite well.

MMORPG needs to just stop posting reviews they are biased to the point of stupidity atm.
The game is not ready to be released there is no doubting that so a low score is merited, but a score in the low 50s still is sorta absurd as the game is no longer that bad.
Compounded with the fact they are dwelling on 12month old content which is no even the focus in the game anymore, failed to list any additions to the game, failed to mention endgame, failed to mention changes in leveling, failed to mention materia, no real mention of the companys, etc shows they did not do a review of this game at all.
They told someone who hates the game to review a game that is labeled "The worst mmo ever made", the game is still not as "Good as WoW" so there for it gets slammed.
All in all the review is biased and has no true merit for someone looking at this game for the first time.
It is just going to be awesome when a game with a score of 58/100 outlives both ToR and Rift and other wow clones in the end which got/will get scores above 85. I think a 60 would be equivalent to a score of 96/100 with mmorpg.
All in all they need to say the game is still not done being redesigned, post the changes, future changes in the works, major issues that still exist, then make thier I would not play this game yet statments. Not "hey they game sucked at launch... why the @@@@ are you still even looking at it Bioware is releasing something soon."
saying the game sucks with no backing to why and no mention of improvement, is just proving that site has little to no merit on their reviews.
I think you are the very biased person here, the review is pretty much spot on, the UI is still bad(Sure not as bad as before but that does not make it any better), there is NO END GAME!! NO END GAME DO YOU UNDERSTAND ? NO ENDGAME! The game is not better than any AAA MMORPG out in the market Period. The game is still not half the game vanilla wow was at release, wanna argue about it ? vanilla wow had 10+ dungeons, 3 end game ones and a raid, this game has 3 dungeons in total.... not one is end gameMMORPG needs to just stop posting reviews they are biased to the point of stupidity atm.

I have 8 crafts at 50. All I did was watch T.V. and spam standard for easy mode synths. Enjoy leveling those crafts in 1.19 and beyond everyone!

you do have to admit that he has some good points. 1.19 is great, nobody is saying otherwise. But is it good enough to turn the game around? Is it enough to attract new players or bring back the ones who left? No it's not.
BUT! 1.19 is just the beginning. The tip of the iceberg. It let's us see what the future holds but we are not there yet. My guess is 1.22 or 1.23 will be the point where the battle system is completely finished, jobs are added, a reasonable amount of gear and content will be there too and MAYBE we will have the UI and new maps by then too. Then and only then will this game be considered a finished product.
Since literally beta we have always been 1 patch or a few patches away from a good MMO.you do have to admit that he has some good points. 1.19 is great, nobody is saying otherwise. True but back then we never knew in what direction the games was heading. Now we have a good idea of what's to expect and the major changes are happening only now.. before it was small tweaks here and there.
Talk about bias. Did you even read the article? No backing? No mention of improvement? They said the game was improving in the first two paragraphs and the entire article is it's impression . Oh and this isn't a review, if you didn't bother with reading the title. It reads "Final Fantasy XIV: 1.19 Patch Impressions". The score is based on the actual review. Considering the state of the game at release, I think it was generous.MMORPG needs to just stop posting reviews they are biased to the point of stupidity atm.

They didn't mention all the crap because the article isn't an indepth analysis of the game or even the patch. It's the writer playing the game after the patch I.E. his experience. Not that any of that is worth mentioning, considering it's mostly stuff most games have on release anyway. The only things I can think of that most games don't already have is the experience chain system, which isn't very impressive because it just an experience reward for grinding harder, and the caravan thing, which actually sounds pretty cool. Materia system is just a just a convoluted socket system that gives boring stat boost (instead of something cool like making your weapon shoot fire or something a little more exciting than +10 str). Grand Companies? Factions with faction quests and faction rewards. Yawn.
The reason why a World of Warcraft clone like Rift gets high reviews isn't because it's World of Warcraft. Rift is possibly the most well made mmo on release date. FFXIV out living it is unlikely seeing it had 4 major content updates (each coupled with new features and world events for all levels of characters) at its 6 month mark.
The worst mmo ever made is APB. The company went bankrupt a year after it was released. Just sayin'.
That being said, I actually like FFXIV and this patch. I prefer it's gameplay and control scheme. It seems promote strategy more so than World of Warcraft's (and friends') "run circles around your opponent so he can't faceroll all 50 of his hotkeys/macros" or "Just hit all of your aoe hotkeys" gameplay model. Unfortunately, there's so much wrong with it and it doesn't help that I haven't found anyone to play with since I recently started playing again.
Oh and why do you guys care so much about what a reviewer says if you already play the game? You're afraid that he's gonna scare off any new players? I think ffxiv's bad release took care of that.

This article is pretty much spot on. More or less.
I agree with DDC, first post person.
