What's really insulting is that apparently renting retainers is all they can do, because any other option means they have too many limitations. Magical.
I don't think I've ever seen an MMO with such expensive inventory space. All others are either one time purchases (mostly in F2P games) that guarantee you keep your expanded inventory forever, bought with in game currency, or space is adequate for the amount of clutter from the get go.
And here in an extremely popular, very profitable subscription MMO, we're unable to get any inventory expansion but with nearly every patch bloating an already very bloated inventory even more, because of "limitations". Unless you pay extra every month to rent them and are prepared to lose them if you can't pay that extra at any given time.
SE at least add more retainers we can buy one time. Or at least add something like a loot filter so I don't have to dedicate what's left of my inventory to junk drops I don't want but get so often I may as well not bother deleting them.
Tomb Raider 2013 was only considered a failure because someone at SE thought it would make Call of Duty sized profits, and were planning on using said profits to fund another dozen tech demos for games that will never be released. Same thing with XIV, they can't spend money improving the experience when they are busy blowing it on tech demos of photo realistic food in the never-to-be-released FFXV.It's not just the rising costs with the tech. We have studios that are blowing so much money on fidelity and marketing and whatever else that we get cases like Tomb Raider 2013 where the game sold a heck ton of units, but it was also considered a failure. There needs to be better budgets all around rather than throwing more money at everything and praying it works.
Can't support this thread enough.
There's just not anywhere near enough inventory space in a game set up to have such an elaborate crafting system involving numerous sub-crafting ingredients and both HQ and NQ versions of materials (don't forget non-stackable collectables while you're leveling gatherers!).
The only thing that pisses me off is that you can't discard items in a retainers inventory (unless I'm missing something), you have to remove it from a retainer, then throw it away one by one. Whyyyyyyyyy
They should implement a system like WoW has where items are mailed to you if your inventory is full.
That said, one more retainer as standard for everyone would go some way towards easing the issue. I'd be happy if they introduced that in the future. I've only been playing for a few months but I craft and I like to collect the seasonal gear; my bags and my retainers' bags are permanently stuffed.
More storage for Free Companies would be nice, too. Maybe they could introduce higher ranks and have unlocking more storage as one of the perks.
My main issue at this point in time is... We didn't get a third or possibly even fourth retainer as part of the expansion. I'm happy with the on character inventory slots as is. But give me an extra retainer or two so I can keep the things I actually want to keep.
