Ahahaha, someone started playing FFXI relatively late. (No hatin' or anything, just, for a -very- long time information was extremely hard to come by w.r.t. that game. xD)

Also, part of the problem with XIV is that to the best of my knowledge we still don't even -know- what some of the stats are / do, they've been fairly resistant to rational analysis and the rules of the game are in such flux that a lot of testing that's been done on FFXI for example hasn't been done on XIV.

But, no, to answer your question, Gamerescape is the place to be, it just needs more wiki magic love. Be part of the solution, not part of the precipitate!

That's good Do you have contact with them? They had a really good thing going at YG for the base stuff, but every time the game changed, they didn't clear the affected info to let it fill out again with accurate info - so much has gone wrong but it doesn't seem like anyone's fixing it.

Nah, I'm just a user of the database. I found the info by jumping on their forums and seeing an announcement in their news section. Their forums are... well.. kinda dead, but a site admin was very quick to respond to someone's post requesting 1.19 updates to put up. I really like their search database, feels streamlined and easy to use and makes some nice use of XHTML/AJAX to allow more information to be viewed at once.

I think the main thing is more people need to post on their forums and post corrections, but it seems like people haven't been doing that. So sometimes you end up with obviously bad information forever being stuck there. I wish the database was in some sort of wiki format that allows you to make corrections if you have an account, or at the very least propose corrections by submitting a form to their staff.

But yeah, I can't wait - I've been feeling lost without them.

I use gamerescape as well for general info. I agree that the mayor FFXIV databases are a bit outdated and incomplete. Back when I played FFXI I would use Killingifrit or Allakhazam the first few years and then XIclopedia. However the active forum community from those sites are pretty dead now, and the game is making so many changes to it's core that it's easier to wait till the game stabilizes before having an in-depth database.

I hope it starts picking up though. I would love reading guides about gear and classes that are up to date. So here is hoping, maybe when the jobs come out.

VERY well said. Even us Admin/Jr.Admins at GE use the databases to get the wheels turning on getting a wiki together, so (much like politics) I wouldn't so much call us all competing forces. The guys at FFXIclopedia (who eventually abandoned Wikia to start GamerEscape; which currently houses the LIVING version of XIclopedia if you haven't found that out yet) now know how powerful a resource can be when you, like Zuellni said, give players the opportunity to have whatever info they want in whatever format they want.

But, like I said previously, it takes time. Whenever the GE's are feeling down, we always head to XIclopedia and check out what pages looked like in 2003. We feel a bit better after that... lol

For the moment, since there aren't many players in-game, we just work on whatever we're passionate about for the moment - usually back-end stuff because it's the hardest and least likely to get done by visitors. But, if there's anything you think is missing and would really like to see it done, please don't hesitate to let us know.

I'll start working on Adding Info in templates when the site gets back up. I always had fun doing that over at the XI
wiki. Are you going to do a Drop % calculator like XI did? That was always useful info when people imputed correct numbers.

Indeed. There's a special code you put after the drop name and then put in the number of drops and number of total kills. In the code page, it would look like...

{{Drop Rate|10|200}}

and the drop table would display (5%)

I just hope people input those numbers responsibly this time - FFXIclopedia's % values got WICKED inflated due to no one ever taking Treasure Hunter into account.

http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/ is definatly the best imo, simplest to use, unfortunate its having technical difficulties at the point of this thread, but it has alot of info there, more users need to input additional info for quests and the like, as this is how ffxiclopedia worked, need people to get editing, because you cant have a few people updating the entire database it will never get filled that way.

Its like if wikipedia was written purely by admin, if that was the case you wouldn't have anywhere near the info it does right now.
