    Suggestion: Tomestone gear devaluation

One of the main features when it comes to FFXIV is that we can have several jobs on one character... yet we can't reasonably gear them up, because the gear gets outdated fast. I have been thinking how to allow us to gear up multiple jobs without the need for an alt - while keeping gear gating relevant.

The answer is - downgrading tomestones of acquired gear

Basically, after you buy an item with the highest tomestones you can then buy items in the same slot for the lower version of tomestones.

Example: If you buy White Mage's staff for Esoterics, then you are able to buy DRK ESO sword or Scholar's ESO book for tomestones of Law.

This would allow us to gear up multiple jobs, while keeping us interested in farming the content even after the weekly cap is reached.

    ---

Edit: As accessories can be used by all the jobs, this system should be used only for the left side of the gear.

Edit 2: Actually the only problem would be with the rings - as they are in pairs. Maybe exclude only the rings?

Would be nice, I spent ages sitting at Tomestone of Law cap as I couldn't get anything interesting with them.

That would be awesome. I'd actually have full Eso gear if it worked like this, rather than only two pieces and a bunch of glamour pieces for other jobs (Chest pieces are so costly...).

Not that I would "do" much with it, but the other people in my expert roulettes would be happier because it went faster. Going from iLvL 173 to like 195 would be a lot.

I would prefer that they increase the weekly cap then to allow spending Law to get Esoteric gears.

Wasn't the point to make it so people would need to keep grinding to extend sub lifetime? it's not rocket science even if it does suck a little.

They'll remove the tome cap later on anyway, they always do.
Why do people always think that faster is better?

The problem with increased cap is that you would be able to gear up your main job faster. I don't think that SE would be happy about that.

I don't think that when it comes to alt jobs it matters that much - as by then there is usually something else to grind. Also gearing up several jobs would keep you occupied for a while.

Also we will get the "house goes puff if no suuub" feature so that should be even less of a problem... oh wait not everyone has a house >.>

I would be happy to do anything with Law tomes right now....like...Law crafting mats....or......hell just something. I've been at 2,000/2,000 for longer than I can remember.

Something needs to be done. I thought for sure it would be addressed in HW,...but nope, here we are at 2.0 all over again, still contradicting the armory system lol.

Removing the cap on current tomes tends to come when they release a new set, so you'll still be behind on gear. I would love to play more jobs than I currently do, but it's impossible to keep up on decent gear for them. By the time my main and secondary are complete, it's time to start on a new gear set.

Some horizontal progression would be sweet.

This is even worse for the new players who are behind with everything and don't even have their main job equiped. Fixed cap may even discourage these players from playing when they are stuck behind.

Imo, there should have been some kind of buffer for the new players. For example increased tomestone cap by 50% till you catch up with all the missed tomes since their introduction.
