Buying all the crafted gear would cost a lot, I agree, but you also get dungeon drops - I even had to hire third retainer to store all the "greed" stuff. Even with that I buy stuff on the market board on regular basis and on my server it is a lil bit pricy but affordable.

Giving players gear in fates... not sure if it is a good solution. Maybe if the demand for crafted gear got higher the prices would decrease.

Sastasha could have iLevel of 10. It is better if the players learn it sooner and also they can support low level crafting that way. The gear starts to be a problem as soon as you unlock Halatali imo.

According to basic economics, higher demand equals higher prices given constant supply. What we would want instead is a higher supply of crafted items. And that would require crafting/gathering to become "fun" for the masses. Good luck. By the by, crafting and gathering would become much less profitable as a byproduct.

As for gear through FATEs - we already do that for lower content to a degree, via company seals which can be exchanged for gear. So a similar (or the same) system can be conveniently used for HW as well.

I don't think that's quite correct - you can get 120 blue gear via tomestones in Mor Dhona (handy if you do MSQ roulette for leveling!) and 115 white gear from vendors in Ishgard. Dusk Vigil starts at 51, so most people generally would want to level there, especially since you get chain boni. You can also upgrade the 120 blue gear to 130, but you need carbontwines for that, which either require hunting or raiding I think. Might be wrong on that one, tho.
