Are you bound to specific DoH/L classes again?

When the game first released, we were sort of bound to level certain DoH/L classes based on our chosen battle classes due to the rate at which equipment lost durability.

Though measures were taken to elevate that, it seems it was ushered back in in 1.19 with materia.

Don't get me wrong, I want to level DoH/L classes. It's just that I want to be good at a variety of DoM/W classes. Idealy, I'd like to have MRD, LNC, CON and THM at cap. But MRD needs BSM/ARM/MNR for materia support. LNC needs CRP/ARM/LTH/BTN/MNR. CON needs WVR/CRP/BTN. THM needs GSM/WVR/MNR/BTN.

I'm just curious how others are approaching their chosen battle classes now that the materia system is out. Is it worth it to be a versatile character or is it better to focus battle classes to be able to be more dedicated to supporting crafts?

its still all a big choice

you can go either way, i dont feel im bound to anything(i have all 50s almost)

granted, you may need some "extra" gear for each class, and alot of stuff will be cross class, but it shouldnt be too hard to do

and anyone with several classes up cant use how much it costs as an excuse for it

at low levels, i'm finding a great benefit to leveling Armorer alongside Gladiator. The game throws materials at you. If you know what you want to make, and it's within 10 levels of your craft's, it's very easy to make it.

As for repairing, all my low level repairs at the NPC shop were 100g apiece. So like 700-1000 for a full body repair to 99%. And the rate of decay is a lot lower than I expected. Must've died 5 times, and not even my jewelry was below 50% yet.

So no, unless you're having trouble finding gear, I don't think it's as necessary to grab a DoH/L as it used to be.

my thoughts, you need to be bound to dol/doh and its worthwhile because A) the more materia attached to a gear the more you become powerful B) enemies now are much harder to kill so materia is a must C)all in all lvling crafts is a must because attaching more than 1 materia might lose your gear+ makes you save your gil if you want to create another gear instead of buying it in the MW

PS: sorry if my english was not clear, its not my first language

That was kind of what I was getting at. You'll get no complaint from me about need to level DoL and DoH classes, my point of the thread though was that things feel restricted again.

For example, I have MRD at 50 and would really like to level THM. But to be an effective player, I need to level at least Blacksmith, Armorer and Miner to do materia for my MRD. Which doesn't help that I now need Goldsmith, Weaver, Miner and Botanist for THM. And even more so, now I can't level fishing and alchemy like I wanted to, because there's classes I have to level.

Guess I was just wondering if others felt the same way or if they're going to just hope others won't stiff them when attaching materia for them.

I really wouldn't worry about it if materia melding worked like repairs.

I see what you're saying about Materia crafting, but I think you're ignoring the community on that one. Do a shout for a crafter to help you attach/create materia and I think that solves your problem.

That said, it is a bit disconcerting to place trust in some random stranger with your valuables. Hopefully they'll make a system to where you can meld someone else's materia without actually removing it from their inventory, like how Repairing is.

Yeah, that's the one thing that could alleviate my apprehension. When I get to the point where I want to attach tier IV materia onto valuable HQ items, I have a feeling the response will be "it's your own gfault" if the stranger I gave it to just fake DCs and keeps it.

A repair-like interface would only make sense.

I'd just pick one that works for the most classes you like at once. I started out leveling alchemy to make dyes for my LS but due to how quickly weapons originally degraded, I took up woodworking ti repair my CNJ staves. I ended up leveling and liking archer a lot so I lucked out. And now once I get a few more levels I'll be able to go obsessive with materia on my staves and bows.

I guess you could also do it that way... see what gear you want to pimp out the most and level the class that will allow you to do that. That way no one has to feel bad at a failure and you don't have to worry about people running off with multiple-materia gear.

Just go and try to socialize with as many crafters as possible when you need materia set, you're bound to find a reliable one.
