If kiddos become playable, the main story better be very S.O.B-ish and involve solving petty crimes n' stuff. Main bad guys could be the grown ups!

You get your loot from the cookie jar - but only if you manage to sneak by the grown-ups without being seen! Otherwise, you quickly have to combo an excuse before the enrage timer hits or you get grounded and might have to do chores.

In 1.0 the description on the onion helmet was that parents gave it to children who were starting out as adventurers. So it's not unheard of for there to be child adventurers. The idea of having them pick things up for you while in the field reminds me of the dog in fable 2 or the cat minions in monster hunter.

Really? Playing FFXIV 1.0 I never once saw a description listed which stated that, and none of my screenshots I took of 1.0 with the Onion Helm's inventory listing visible ever showed such a description - even the item voucher for it that came with the 1.0 Collector's Edition didn't state anything of the sort either, all it said was that "it accelerates character recovery after falling in battle" (it's original in game effect).
I'm really curious now about where you found this information (also I find it really strange that the Adventurer's Guild would actually let children even register as adventurers, instead telling them to "go back home little boy/girl" - but maybe I'm just more idealistic than cynical).

Depends on the location, Thanalan is more of a place where idealism goes to die for most (Mostly due to Ul'Dah's corruption) and kids still wound up in danger a couple times (Garlean brainwashing, attempting to summon Rhalgr and one kid at sea at the start of the Sahagin quests, speaking of which I don't think tempered Amal'jaa would discriminate on thralls based on age either)I'm really curious now about where you found this information (also I find it really strange that the Adventurer's Guild would actually let children even register as adventurers, instead telling them to "go back home little boy/girl" - but maybe I'm just more idealistic than cynical).
As for the topic, I don't think Kids will be playable characters due to the sexy outfits, the (bloodless, but still) violence and the general trama associated with 2.55 and beyond. Lalafell are the closest, but that's either becuase SE haven't gotten to showing the kids yet or they have and they are just indistinguishable from the adults and even then I'm sure the lore would paint them Lala Warriors as adults anyway (RP might differ, but that might have certain issues with misuse).

Thank you for posting that image - I seem to now remember seeing that pic on the original Lodestone. Reading that though, the context I got from that is that it's not 'proving' that minors can become adventurers, more that the Onion Helm was given to children when they came of age (in other words, reached adulthood), hence the reference to 'starting on their life's journey'.
Which really is exactly what is already happening meta wise in the game anyway - it's long been stated that adventurers are 'free spirited youth', so that Onion Helm reference kind of confirms that. Anyway, thanks again for posting that image.![]()
Well, it's not exactly the same thing, but as far as RP goes, I've taken to looking after the Doman Kids the WoL inspired into becoming "Rookie Adventurers".
Not so much like a dad, more like the crazy uncle that the kids always look forward to seeing.
