Iron Thunder's "Learn About Gear Condition"

Perhaps on other NPCs too, but when you select "Learn About Gear Condition" at Iron Thunder in the Battleward market in Limsa Lomina, the following text in included:

The Gear Damage status will first appear when the Condition of an equipped item has reached a certain level of wear.
At this point, the owner will cease to receive the full benefit of the damaged item's stats. This can be rectified by repairing the items. If repairs are neglected and the item continues to be used, eventually the Heavy Gear Damage status will appear.

We still get full benefits from equipment with Gear Damage now (before it gets to Heavy Gear Damage).
