Nope cause now you can immersivly touch the sky
Hmmmm hard to say really. In a way yes but really no.
I was in such a rush to find the quests to get the air currants because lets admit it people before you hit 60 on your first job this is the most annoying thing finding the hidden quests. I think that helped to kill immersion in a way. But flying no.
Once you finally have it your abble to get to some great places and see some great views.
Top of zenith in the Churning mists is one of my favorites.
immersion? I have no idea what you're talking about...
the lacking of open map has already killed immersion
how many of you can actually visualize Eorzea like you did Wow Azeroth? I only have a rough idea about the general geographical location of all ff14 city states, and to some extend their boundaries only due to the names of their subzones, but these fragmented zones could never really form a complete world in my mind.
and therefore flying actually somehow helps the pathetic state of FF14's lack of immersion

You can always not fly if you want. /shrug
But I don't really think it's a problem, especially with the way flying works in this game (as compared to something like WoW pre-WoD). You have to do the MSQ for each zone and explore them all before being able to fly in them, so it's not as if you can just grab the flying ability and breeze through all the zones right away. The only real benefit to flying in this game is being able to reach HW hunts and side-quests faster. And maybe future main story quests.
Duty Finder and Teleports kill immersion a lot more than Flying does.
Flying has added to immersion for me, when you find these little bits of landscape that you can only get to via flying, the world seems really cool.

Flying really doesn't break immersion for me. I agree with the person above that teleports make the world seem a lot smaller than being able to fly around a zone. If anything, flying allows you to explore and see places in the game from a different perspective where you otherwise wouldn't pay your surroundings any attention. It's just fun.
I do wish we had flying mobs that could swoop in and aggro us in the sky...might make it easier to come up with a working set of rules for quidditch now that we have that awesome broom mount if the actual game mechanics allowed for it, sort of like that old mob soccer game back in XI...
(I haven't actually tried the broom out in HW areas yet, just assuming it flies because flying broom.)

No but teleportation does IMO.
I love flying. My favorite form of travel. I actually wish they would retrofit ARR for flying. If we could actually fly from Limsa to Ul'dah, I'd do that, too, but alas, server limitations etc.
Anyhow, it hasn't hurt anything for me. I don't miss out on seeing any beautiful parts of the landscape - we had to traverse them in near entirety to be able to fly in the first place, and then we are still active on the ground when we get to whatever destination we flew to. Flying is my "oh yes!" moment when I enter a zone. If anything, it's done the opposite of hurt immersion for me.

I don't think it ruins anything. I actually do MORE exploring on my flying mount, whereas in zones where I'm grounded I tend to go straight to my destination.
