    They are maskless in FFIII on the DS, but the resolution is too low to really see what they look like. The sketch Kaela posted is pretty much it, though.

    It's mentioned, both in FFXI and FFXIV, that goblins wear the masks because the air we breath is toxic to them just as I'm sure their air, which they are accustomed to, is toxic to us. Goblins can't survive on the surface without their masks.

    It's not so much that the air we breathe is toxic to them, as much as they simply can't stand its smell (hence why they wear them: to filter it out; these masks also have "aromatic herbs" inside to make it more pleasant).

    Note: Their 'aromatic herbs' are putrid things like rotten teeth/decaying toenails, putrid mushrooms, etc. At least according to FFXI lore. Goblins favorite drink is Rot Tea.
