    Chiming in with agreement with the OP. The decay timer is a terrible idea on its own, but 45 days is an awful timer. It needs to be longer.
    I'm on break right now, but I still found five minutes tonight to check my Gold Saucer lottery ticket before I started to catch up on my DVR.

    Breaks do not always mean remaining subscribed. Why stay subscribed if you don't intend to log in for a certain period of time? That's a waste of money.

    I'm on a 6 month plan but to counter, why should people not playing and not paying keep their house while people who are actively playing and paying not have access. Housing is a limited resource and SE has set priority to those who play and have an active subscription. May not be fair to people who quit for a couple months at a time, but fair to those who actively play and want a house. Beside's, we've had this debate before and SE has decide.

    If you rent a movie, do you feel like you have to actively watch it several times a day, every day until you return it to not be a waste of money?

    Using your same analogy.

    If you rent a movie, do you just let it sit there and never watch it until you return it?

    Because that's what having a subscription and not entering your house is.

    Sometimes that actually happens with movies I actually spend 90% of the time in my yard - in fact, I have to purposely remember to enter my alts house now as I only use it for the garden...

    Except upon buying the house it was never mentioned that a sub was necessary. There was never 'rent' either via gil or $$$ to keep the house, and it was never noted upon purchase.

    That aside, it would be like buying a really popular movie instead of renting one, it is sold out everywhere but you own it. You watched it once, but might watch it again sometime in the future. Should the movie police kick down your door and take the movie from you on the grounds that "Someone will enjoy and watch this movie more than you".

    This is so true! When I purchased the house, I was told by YoishiP (quoted below) that this game would not have a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription.
    And eventually they implemented a system where your house would break down even you have continued your subscrption ^^;

    Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?

    A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
