I've been waffling over doing my own 'novelization' of the game, mostly because I'd want to write in some romance involving the PC and at least one established character, and everything about that pings my 'bad writing' alarm bells...but the story would feel incomplete to me if I didn't.

Do it.

You'd be shocked at how many 'horrible' stories I've written...And read...And enjoyed despite the 'bad' premise. The Fire Emblem Awakening fandom, for instance, is home to a few surprisingly good self-insert fanfiction, good enough that it led to a wave of 'copycat' fics on FF.net (of variable quality).

And if it makes you feel any better, my own novelization (if I do it) will also inevitably include some romance between the PC and one of the NPC characters.
