    Easiest DPS To Play?

    Hey all!

    I know this sort of topic tends to bring out both defensive responses from some players and senseless trolling from others. I respectfully ask people refrain making such posts as I am not asking this question to get a rise out of people.

    Backstory: I suffer from fibromyalgia among other comorbid diseases. (I used to work in the medical field. Can't you tell? ) This impacts my ability to play the game. I tend to forget steps in long rotations. I also have difficulty monitoring multiple timers.

    The classes/jobs I have played the most are Conjurer/White Mage and Pugilist/Monk. I enjoyed playing the Arcanist, Pugilist, and Lancer damage dealing classes as I leveled my two characters.

    However, I wondered if there were easier dps classes to play. I figured if I enjoyed playing them then I could focus more attention to my dungeon/raid environment and less on worrying if I messed up my rotation.

    So... what do you think? What is the consensus on which dps is the easiest to play (and the most fun! )

    You can try out Bard, we have no set rotations, though, you do need to keep on top of Windbite and Venomous Bite (those are only two timers, and with Iron Jaws makes it one timer, essentially). So as long as you use Bloodletter when it's up and are refreshing those DOTs then you're pretty good.

    Though honestly if you aren't raiding or going for world first progression it honestly doens't matter as long as you press the buttons when they are ready (honestly it surprises me the amount of people I see just auto attacking, and I know it's not about button pressing speed I mean about like a min of just AA... use A SKILL...SOMETHING... anything)

    Bards and Machinist have no set rotation. But if I were to describe them, they're the button smashing jobs (shots fired?!). I personally enjoy Machinist a lot. But I can also imagine why a lot of players are unable to perform this job to it's maximum output. While it's not complicated or difficult, you require a certain degree of reaction and thinking speed to get the most out of Machinist. Ninja falls under the "button smashing job" category as well, although nowhere as bad as Machinist.

    Black Mages may have the "easiest rotation". I think this is still the case with 3.0, but my Black Mage is still level 50 at this point. So I'll refrain from leaving more comments about this.

    Among the melees, monks actually have the easiest rotation to deal with and it's harder to deal terrible damage as a monk than it is to deal high damage, believe it or not. You could achieve somewhere around 70% of your maximum DPS output by spamming the same 3 skills over and over. Or what used to be referred as "the flank monk" back in 2.0. Achieving maximum potential out of a monk requires a lot of positionals. But failing to get the positionals once every once in a while won't completely destroy your DPS. The only thing you have to maintain are your "stacks". Which you can keep as long you can do a full form cycle in any combo rotation within 5 GCDs.

    You probably have 3 choices:

    BRD: As somebody has pointed out.

    MNK: Outside of ogcds, in its simplest form, MNK's dps execution is essentially 2 rotating sets of button press with 3 buttons each, and 2 dot timers. All other combat timers auto refresh upon executing the rotation.

    BLM 2.0: One linear rotation, the easiest one in 2.0. It doesn't require you to watch any combat timer (only 1 essential buff timer requires attention) and the best part is it does only ~20% less dps than BLM 3.0 rotation.

    Difficulty in improving each: BRD>MNK>BLM
    DPS potential as you get better at each: MNK>>BLM>BRD
    Combat mobility: MNK>BRD>=BLM
    Total number of timers that require attention: BRD>>MNK>BLM

    To generate a better idea of a dragoon vs monk rotation. Disclaimer: It is not meant to scare off anyone and think that dragoon is "complex", it's rotation is simply not very flexible.

    Dragoon rotation from the how to dragoon per second" topic:
    HT - ID - DI - [BOTD] - CT - 4TH - [GK] - PH - TT - VP - FT - 4TH

    HT - ID - DI - CT - 4TH - [GK] - PH - TT - VP - FT - 4TH

    HT - ID - DI - CT - 4TH - [GK] - PH - TT - VP - [BOTD] - FT - 4TH - [GK]

    HT - ID - DI - CT - 4TH - PH - TT - VP - FT - 4TH - [GK]

    HT - ID - DI - CT - 4TH - PH - TT - VP - FT - 4TH - [GK]

    -> Repeat

    Monk rotation in a nutshell:
    Dragon Kick -> Twin Snakes -> Snap Punch/Demolish
    Bootshine -> True strike -> Snap Punch/demolish
    insert Touch of Death anywhere if it's about to fall off
    Use snap punch over Demolish if there's still time left on Demolish
    Insert oGCDs anywhere

    Please. You don't need however many geirskoguls per minute to be a good dragoon, and fights don't go perfectly enough for you to always pull off a dummy rotation.

    heavy thrust->combo 1->phlebotomize->combo2->repeat

    Dragoon is simple as hell.

    I like to pretend being good at DRG is some kind of skill, but it really is the easiest class to play. When you play any other DPS, you can really see where DRG has to put in like half as much effort to get comparable results.

    Ongoing mission: Tank everything on DRG. On purpose.

    Apparently, what one finds difficult, is not so for another.

    I'd avoid BLM, that requires extensive understanding of a fight to perform well.

    Of the two DPS I play, I find that MNK 'flows' really well and just continuing the offense is almost always the right option (minus shoulder tackle in some situations). DRG has a bit more strict timings and requires you understand when to use jump (proper Geriskogul usage can also be a challenge if you intend to master the class). MNK swaps and AoEs better than DRG as well; which is very relevant for a dungeon setting.

    Despite being a DRG main, I find MNK muuuuuuuuuuch easier.

    My 2c.

    I think Ninja is a really easy class to play. If I had to say it's probably the easiest out of all the DPS jobs.

    Firstly, the Ninjutsu mechanics might be a problem with your fibromyalgia. So if you think pressing the 4 buttons to use a Ninjutsu in a 2.2 second window might be problem. If you read that sentence and said: "Yeah, that's out." disregarding this is fine, otherwise keep reading!

    When I first hit the 50-60 range I was a bit overwhelmed, but once you get used to the job NIN falls into a very comfortable rhythm, where you use -----one skill, and use a oGCD, and then another skill, oGCD--- (Weaving) and then you basically just press what comes off cooldown for the rest of the fight, which isn't that much!
