One of the problems stems from the maximum nuber of targets per one ability. One can effectively zerg fest a mob and burn it down, while it can only hit a section of the mob with its attacks. As long as this is occuring, any boss encounter in the dungeon can be destroyed by throwing enough bodies at it.

I hope they have found a way around this with the islands, or that they'll address this in the future, as its a real limitation that is the reason behind hunt mobs being mostly helpless targets, when they should be tough.
I believe Yoshi P. mentioned that the Island Exploration will be instanced. It will allow multiple groups to enter into the same instance, so hopefully there is a maximum player number established to prevent the zerg fest that plagues the current hunt model.
