If it's a melee like me I tell em follow my lead. If it's ranged I te them what priority targets to watch for. If it's a tank I give Debuff and Tank Buster Warnings. I give those and AoE Warnings to new healers.

And even if everyone has run it I always make sure everyone remembers wonky mechanics like Belladona's Seduce in Arbotium.

A few seconds spent on the front end tends to save minutes on the back end. Not to mention it's only polite to see if everyone is on the same page.

If I'm truly new I will say at the beginning "Hi all. Newbie here. Please let me know about anything tricky"

If it's just a new char, I say "On a new char but been here before"

Even then I still have many times when I'm new that everyone just charges on ahead. Since I'm the healer, we usually wipe because I don't know to dodge this or that the boss might do that. I pick it up pretty quickly. When I see the message that someone is new, I find out who they are (if we can't tell from cutscene watching) and take time to stay out of the arena to give a sentence or two about anything tricky. I've had tanks rush in and lock me out before. They didn't get that far without the healer.

Yup, it is. I am praying that one day you don't take the 20 seconds explain the basics of the Nidhogg fight in Aery to a newbie and you die to Sable Price. A lot.

New person?! 40 bonus Law?! Hot damn!

I always hug the person giving the bonus. Then as a tank, i make the run as smooth and understandable as possible. While still moving at a brisk, but not at all overwhelming pace.

I'm still levelling so cause the 'Newbie' alert a lot.
I do watch the video guides, but they are often a 5 min main point review, not a full guide. Sometime I can find a full run video, but it will normally be without commentary making it vague at best.

I tank so am expected to know the way and what to do in every encounter, and to do it all at full speed so the speed runners can get through it as fast as possible. All whilst just trying to level up.

Personally I would prefer to do dungeons for end game and for fun. However you can't avoid them here, as not only the main quest, but many items, questlines, and entire areas, are gated behind Dungeon Quests that you need to complete.

Yes I only need to do each dungeon once, but so does every player not already at cap. That means a lot of 'newb' alerts for everone. Please try to remember that we are not trying to piss you off, we are just trying to level up, and that means we have to do dungeons.

Newbie bonus means at some point I ask, does everyone know the fights? Yes, great plow ahead. No, laconic explanation of pretty much only the kill mechanics. The rest they can be carried through because typically the other 3/4 people are overgeared or whatever.

So...best of both worlds with none of the drama? Awesome!

Usually if I see this in a dungeon, I either count on whoever might be new to say something if they don't know a fight, or, depending on the fight/how important it is to not screw up mechanics, I'll ask if anyone needs an explanation. :P

As for my personal experience with it... I have a love/hate relationship with this. I haven't had any trouble personally with people harassing me because I'm new to something, but at the moment, I feel like this is the primary thing holding me back from getting a Thordan clear. ._. (I've been up to the second KotR with a couple groups now, but the majority of them can't even clear split tank phase and it gets a bit old because I can't practice beyond where I've already been because so few other PF groups can get there. :| I have been tempted to sneak into a farming group since I do know the last little bit but haven't experienced it myself yet... But in the off-chance that I do screw something up, plus the "no bonus" witch hunt... XP; )

I feel like 90% of fights can be "wing it" with dodge AoE's, kill adds.

Once in a blue moon there is a mechanic that probably takes 1 sentence to explain that'll cause a wipe otherwise. Every fight in the new extreme saint's can fall under dodge AOE, kill adds. No need to know every detail. They'll pick up on it.

Your right NO info is bad. I feel like most people can get by with cliff notes. If they can't well then I guess that's when you start fine combing the details for them.

If you are new to a dungeon, a simple "Hi, I'm new to the dungeon." is usually enough to let the others know they should take it easy or explain a key mechanic.

As for explaining it myself, if it's a fight that I know has a special dynamic, I'll ask "Does everyone know how this goes?". I figure it's easier to take a few seconds to explain it NOW rather than spend minutes dying or wasting mana LATER. It's an expediency thing.

It's the tanker job to explain the fight to everyone.
