    Upgrades/Levels?

hello. i was thinking some kind of system for job actions (and maybe even some class actions too) that would allow us to upgrade them would be cool. like each action would have multiple levels and multiple upgrades to choose from.

we could have 3 save-sets of upgrades. 1 we build for solo-play, one for 4man content and another we can build for 8man content. (or whatever else someone would want to build it for) the save-set doesn't mean different trees to choose from. you just create a new set and select your upgrades then use that set for whatever content you want.

i think maybe each action could have like 3~5 levels you can increase it by. and the different upgrade choices could add/make effects/changes based on like defense, offense or support traits.

with this players would be able to choose different play-styles that they like the most.

for example... not everyone wants to rely on casting times for jobs like BRD or MCH to increase their DPS output. and then some people may even like it better like that. but with a system like this people could possibly choose.

and people could even make a full support BRD for 8man content. the player would most likely suffer a heavy DPS penalty. but the DPS-gain the BRD could afford the rest of the group could more then make up for it.

anyhow, i do realize that something like this would probably be rather difficult to implement. we could limit it to just job actions only. and if need be to even just 3.0 and above job actions only. i don't know if they would have to go back and look at some content and make adjustments accordingly, or what. but if they could somehow successfully implement a system like this it would be so awesome. i think it would allow much more diversity among players player-styles.

Think you might be on to something here.

They use a similar system in PvP where you have PvP points depending on your PvP level to augment and customize PvP abilities. This can be used to reduce the CD, add damage, or effects (like slow, knockback, etc).

Now, in every form of PvP (except for the 4v4 arenas), all those abilities are maxed out. However, they do have the code and system in place for it (so it's actually super easy to transfer it to say job skills). I just don't know to what extent they may apply to PvE skills or if those changes will be solely used as a way to improve the existing PvP.

There's also a lot of design considerations as a lot of people want dps, tank, and healer specializations on PLD, DRK, MRD, and BRD. I don't think they'd go that far as it is essentially like designing 3 new jobs for every class, but it is a way to customize and maybe provide that much desired horizontal progression.

As we already have quite a lot of abilities in our arsenal, that adding more will just be bloat-bilities, it's the most logical route to take.

the job actions doesn't necessarily have to multiple levels. it could just have 1 level and the choice between 3 different upgrades. maybe some actions will be excluded from a specific upgrade. each job action that has an upgrade could be changed in a way so that one of the upgrades can make it exactly how it was before the system. so people can still play without any changes, and others can try something different.

While this sort of thing would be fun and might help reduce ability bloat (leveling up gievs you skill upgrade points instead of simply another button to press), you'll very quickly run into the old problem of theorycrafters working out the ideal setup and then everyone who uses something else will get flamed.

This sort of thing will happen, but honestly, at least people could play how they wanted. I'll use summoner as an example, think of a tree of passive abilitys that just enhance your pets, give them more HP, more attack, more everything to make them awesome, but you lose out of spell augments if you follow this tree, but on the other side, you can nerf your pets, in favor of being more of a straight spellcaster, augmenting your spells and dots. People will find the best results, its what we do, everyone wants to be the best they can be, but at least people would be able to do various "builds" and play their class how they want.
