The Problem With Speed Running Castrum Meridianum (and it's not what you think)

Over the last 4 months, I have noticed a common trend among tanks who do Castrum Meridianum. Obviously because they control how things go, many want to speed run the dungeon to get their tomestones along with a bonus as fast as possible.

However, these tanks are failing to remember that this place is a 8-person team effort. The DPS are responsible for manning the 2 sets of 4 cannons in order to cause as much damage as possible. However, the tanks move the Magitek Reapers and Colossi too close to these cannons and after firing the cannons, we get the aggro and the Reapers and Colossi shoot at us and destroy the cannons. In so, doing, by trying to speed run Castrum Meridianum, they eliminate what is needed to ACTUALLY speed run.

Tanks, do a better job of positioning these Magitek machines and stop self-sabotaging your own speed runs.

Problem I've seen is that no one understands the difference between "speed run" and "mass pulls" anymore lol. It's easy to skip like half the mobs, but people pull a bunch of stuff and make the run longer in an ironic effort to be fast.

    Also what you said :P

I've honestly found, even back when Castrum was a big deal, that if your DPS were decently geared and even halfway knew what they were doing it was often just as fast (and sometimes faster) to kill everything the good ol' fashioned way instead of trying to drag everything across the zone to within range of the cannons. The cannons are only really worth the effort when most of your DPS are fresh 50s who aren't even pushing i90 in my experience.

A: It's not about positioning, it's about interrupting the giant slash attack that destroys cannons. And as a warrior, you can only stun one of them once every 20 seconds, so if the dps aren't all firing the cannon quickly to destroy the targets, it gets out of hand.

B: The only reason to run castrum at all is to farm poetics, right? Once you hit 3.0 content, running Castrum is just a waste of time. So the people running castrum tend to be new, and there tends to be a lot of people that don't know what they are doing. Dps, tank, healer, it's all the same. Most people don't know what they are doing, even when they are running it for the 4th or 5th time.

Long story short, as I tell everyone I've been in fc with, stop farming 2.X stuff and just focus on finishing the 2.X story. Get to 3.0, and you won't have to run Garuda HM and Castrum Meridium a hundred times to get 10 measly item levels.

I don't know the number of level 54 players I've seen who have yet to run snowcloak for 2.4 story, because they are too busy grinding themselves numb on 2.X content. Get to Ishgard, then worry about that other stuff later.

The MSQ Roulette actually gives a good amount of XP (about the same as a High Roulette I think). So...its not really newer players running it, its people on jobs they may not fully understand.

    QFT

Running MSQ roulette and Guildhest once per day can net you north of 2mill a week. I queue MSQ while doing the daily housekeeping (Retainers, Market Board, GC turn in, etc.), and the hests roulette pops in like 5 minutes. Usually works out just about right so I don't feel like I'm wasting time on the queue, so it's a pretty nice way to top off those odd jobs on the side while doing other busy work.

It's still way less than just running the highest hw dungeon you can do. It's enough experience to be worth it if you're just bored to tears with dusk vigil (or whichever you're on), but that's about it.

That's not a speed run issue but a moronic tank issue. Sadly very common.

pretty much, i can hold the colossi no problem not to mention i take it further down away from the cannons. Any tank who takes it on top of the cannons is a retard.
