Positionals are made completely irrelevant by moonwalking. We're talking about willfully eliminating a aspect of the game that encourages the use of skill in favour of increasing the overall game speed. It might not be an issue in a 72 man cluster F*** like seize, but things like this make a huge and rather annoying difference in smaller game modes like 24 man, or Wolves Den.

Also, it leaves the door open to broken gameplay. Speedhacking is easier to hide using moonwalking, and could you imagine if everyone did it? It seems nice for you now since there's only a few people who are taking advantage of it, but imagine if the entire map was full of people who glided around like specters instead of actually using their legs. The game would look and feel broken.
Oh, I know full well what it does to melee, as that's my primary choice of class. I also know that positionals are largely a hassle to go for, for a magnitude of reasons already (latency, unpredictable non-AI movement, etc etc etc), and in some cases (important: some) it's just not possible, or outside of Trick Attack even worth going for.

Also, for the record, I'm not saying to use it, or even to not remove it, just saying that it was possible on PS4, and in my experience entertaining in matches, both being done by and against me. What actually got me going was the comparison to the bunny-hopping of old WD fame... this isn't even in the same league of issue as that was.

Not sure about this speed hack stuff, is this a thing? And yeah, a whole 72 player match of people doing this would look dumb... if a bit amusing, for a minute or so.

It is, unfortunately. You can youtube it and come up with some pretty interesting videos of people either running (not sprinting) at sprint speed, or, in the absolute worst cases, going full "no-clip" and flying around the map.I've never seen it personally in a PvP match, though I've heard rumours. However, I have seen it within the regular game map. I was once in Central Than and saw a group of five people hovering over the gound and flying (literally) at break neck speed. They had the animation of simply jogging, but were actually flying. They seemed to have cleared the entire map in less than 5 seconds. I'm not sure what they were doing, mind you, because they kept repeating the action over and over, bouncing east to west, but they were doing it.

And yeah, it probably would look pretty amusing to see 72 people gliding around at first, but I don't think the fights would be fun if we could all just easily glide in and out of our attack ranges without having to actually go through the motions, and I have a feeling that the result would be most PvP'ers swapping to casters or ranged, since Melee would be at a disadvantage trying to catch people that could move without restrictions and still fling arrows or spells at the person chasing them without concern or penalty.

The only way they could 'fix' this exploit without breaking the facetarget command is to grant everyone the benefits of the facetarget exploit in pvp without actually having to use it. It's kind of a sloppy fix but its still fair.

You can walk backwards faster by changing your control setup between legacy and camera based if I remember correctly. You won't be limited to the lock on speed of running backwards.

Honestly I've seen people do what you are saying but it hasn't stopped me one bit from getting ninja TA or dragoon positionals off at all.

Then the people you've run into are very specifically not doing what the OP is describing.

The OP describes a situation where some players are using software to rapidly press a keybind that has a macro that forces them to face their target. We're not talking about pressing the button a few times a second by mashing it, with melee able to get off their positionals if they time it right. No, we're talking an automated program that rapidly presses the key every handful of milliseconds. There is no getting off your positionals on such people when they're targeting you. It's literally impossible to do unless they have a severe lag spike (which stops them from turning for the duration) or they're CCed and unable to turn.

There is no "exploit" or "software that smashes keys by the millisecond". You guys are delusional. Auto face target it's there so players can get attacks off while moving. If you want stationary fights, target dummies are plentiful.

We are not talking about the Target setting that "Automatically face target when using action."

I don't think it would be that far fetched to have a program that can automatically face nearby enemies... the advantage of which would be that they can't get behind you to avoid blocks or parries (or get their positional bonuses), nor can your casts be broken by evasive movement... Which... is what this thread is about... It's not a complaint about people moving around in PvP.

Not really sure what you are on about, macro software has been capable of doing this for years

bind the macro to a key, in this case insert, or if you dont want the clicking sound going off on the hotbar:
