Dude, you asked what about role play is related to grinding the same monsters for hours, blah blah blah. I replied that I don't even think that's what grinding should be in the first place, which makes your question moot.

And by the way, it was a dumb and mostly unrelated question anyway, which I explained with my comments about the difference between "role playing" and "RPGs."

And also by the way, you failed to really counter any of my points.

Just because you don't get the exact replies you want doesn't mean people are impossible to converse with.

The worth of a max level character is a prime motivator for the experience grind, without an experience grind MMO's have little in the way of long term gaming. The easier it is for other people to gain access to a max level character diminishes the value of achieving a max level character. MMO's meet with little success if they're are no long term goals to be met and rewards that are disproportionate to the amount of time that needs to be investment.

The concept of power-leveling has been addressed as old as games such as Ultima Online, Ragnarok Online, and Everquest to name a few. The delusion that how other players choose to play the game has no bearing on me is a fallacious idea. The same way as letting other players bot and manipulate the economy (I cannot compete against a 24 hour gaming machine in an online game economy) is a flaw. Letting other players gain max level with 0 effort diminishes my characters worth.

I don't want to gain max level without effort but if i want to engage in endgame content I will not be able to compete with players who have access to all jobs at max level.

A large influx of max level characters makes it difficult for my traditional leveled characters to compete economically, access to higher level abilities, and equipment options. Other problems include, selling of high level characters for ingame and out of game money, poorly skilled end game players, limited number of people i can form groups with and meaningful connections with other players in a casual leveling scenario. And from a business standpoint short term monthly subscriptions.

I understand the concept of letting higher leveled players play with lower leveled players however they're are many solutions to this that have been used in other MMO's. A good idea would be to let max level players level synch with lower level players at the benefit of increased soul level experience.

I hope i succeeded in making my point clear, and that i've contributed to invalidating the argument that power leveled characters do not affect my online experience.

I trust that the development team will stand to reason on this issue, I hope they address it swiftly and quickly, however I am severely disappointed by the level of oversight this patch has demonstrated and on a personal note i urge Yoshi-P to continue to listen to the community and to be more critical of his personal ideologies.
The biggest here is your thinking about for the stand point of a single class game where if i lvl PUG up to 50 that is the only class that i can play but its not. PLing problem is not as big as most of you ppl are making it no new player will be able to be PLed they won't know anybody nor will they have the money to pay someone to do it. The way i see it most being PLed most likey have one high lvl class as it is this is also a problem (if you want to call it that) that only affects DoW/Ms DoH and DoL dont have this ablitiy but im sure with all the threads on here about this someone has already said these things but if not then aleast someone did. Bots will get banded but it's a matter of time. It really do want to say this but lvling do not make you better at playing your class experimenting with your class makes you better at your class this is the big diffrents for those who are good and those who are the best.

How much of this is just "I have a max rank character and I don't want anyone else to have one"?

SE has a system for mindless grinding that will give your character high worth. Forbidden Materia. Do the math on what it will take to have all your classes pimped to the max with materia of your choice. If you haven't noticed yet this game is shifting into character development where your level really isn't the main focus since you get considerable power through materia. How will you get power leveled when the cap lifts and we have to get to let's say level 100? You will have to level normally so sit tight and wait for that day my little trolls.

I don't get why so many people are OK with power-leveling.

    It's cheap. It's unfair.

If you think otherwise, then you are either guilty of doing it yourself, or you're just an idiot who should STFU.

10/14/11 - FFXIV community civil war erupts. "I'm paying and the game is gonna be awesome." VS. "I'm leaving and the game is gonna die." Let the battles begin!

Just rant in the first thread. I'm tired of everyone making a new thread about this. We don't need three threads running, while the same people will talk in all of them, depending on the time of day, maybe only one thread is up, so new people go to that one to talk. If there were only one everyone would be forced to talk in one about it. Its all about powerleveling, change two sentences and adding a rant doesn't make it worthy of a new thread.

Honestly, somebody pling somebody in a cave for hours on end is less annoying then some guy on my server who purposely rode around on chocoback trying to steal claims from low level nms for no reason. He wasn't even doing the quest for Ifrit, and it didn't seem like he was farming. He was just griefing with his slow ass delay on purpose.

I grind in an RPG to get awesome abilities that would augment my fun with the combat system. I grind in order to reach the same level of strength of a certain boss because RPGs are still inherently based on stats and not skill(although the line is blurring slowly but surely). I grind because it's sometimes a prerequisite to get access to certain types of content. I grind because killing baddies with buddies is pretty fun.

I don't grind because I give three shits about hitting max level or stroking my "e-peen". If your own worth in a video game comes from having other people idolize you(and why would/should they?) as opposed to having fun along the way and being a great member of the community, then you can piss off.

If a scant amount of people are powerleveling and the only things being hurt are your fragile egos as opposed to actual game mechanics being broken(which may or may not be the case), then why should anyone care?

    Guys, guys.

    It's been settled.

    This is Yoshida, the producer/director.

I’m sorry that this is late, but I would like to add a few points.

Power leveling is viewed very differently from player to player, and I still stand by my stance that it should be allowed to a certain extent to bridge the gap between long-time players and newer players. This is because I see it as an act of volunteering, in which the power leveling players are willing to give up their time to help out their friends or family members.

We expected the extent of power leveling to become evident with the removal of the claim system, but we didn’t foresee the extent to which low level players can sit AFK, while in the same party with a much higher level character fighting monsters, without the level differences between the players being applied to the incoming EXP.

The calculations for gained EXP have been fundamentally changed in patch 1.19, which has made this issue more difficult to handle. We considered issuing an emergency maintenance to address this, but the release of patch 1.19a is very quickly approaching, so we have decided to fix the issue in patch 1.19a.

I’m sorry for the confusion that this has caused.
Can we lock this thread please k thx

Have to agree...what i get is how the hell are you supposed to learn a class when you are stood in a corner hiding like a big tart and a level 50 kills for you? I feel sad this has come to this. I know people on my server who have been there since the beginning and worked hard...and it means nothing now. I am all for people getting XP and having fun but in a balanced way that' isn't stupidly hard and not easy mode.
