Has anyone else noticed that attack magic potency seems to increase damage variance?

Against a monster 3 levels below me, my Scourge II did between 290 and 300 every single cast. I added 20 attack magic potency. My Scourge II then did 270-330. If this is the case, it seems pretty useless unless you're lucky.

You didn't get a resist or anything? How many casts did you do?

Hmm... that seems kind of odd. Did you happen to lose any INT when you added Attack Magic gear? It may work out that INT raises the floor and Attack Magic raises the roof (up in huur up in huur.. sorry couldn't resist lol). So if you lost a little INT the floor would be lower but the higher Attack Magic could account for the higher damage.

No INT was lost. I just swapped magic accuracy for attack magic. Also, there were no resists. I did ~12 casts with each setup.

I just tested again and saw the same effect. Against equal level monsters, the minimum and maximum damage became further apart, but not by as many points.

My damage output increased tremendously when I increased my magic potency.

Try wearing +0 potency wands and equips, then wear a full materia'd set and accessories(+70-80 pot) you will see a massive difference.

Monsters 3 levels below me take 600+ damage on nukes at the very least, back at 47 when I had 380 potency I did 200-280.

... and you don't think taking off magic accuracy had an effect on your, say, magic accuracy? ...

How is magic accuracy relevant here if none of my casts were resisted? Unlike FFXI, it tells you when any spell is partially resisted.

We know what stats they effect, we don't know what they do. Enfeebling Magic doesn't have any discernible effect on DoT potency. STR doesn't change Attack Power in the tooltip, and has a more noticeable effect on damage 1:1 than AP. Unshroud the mysteries.

My parsing data seemed to indicate that AP had more of an effect on damage than STR..... thats odd
