Misclick can cause FFXIV to crash

    Hello everyone!

I've got a duel screen setup on my PC.

FFXIV plays on my left screen. If I'm aiming for the right edge of FFXIV and click too far:

Unable to detect DirectX device. The program has shut down. Please restart FINAL FANTASY XIV
The menu shortcuts are all on the lower right hand side of the game; I can't keep my mouse away from that corner of the game forever.

    Please assist!

    Move them to another location.
Use Windowed and something else to make it fit the screen.

Okay, this is now the second post you've made telling me to disable or disconnect my devices.

My devices are not broken, they are operating very well. Please desist.

If I were to run FFXIV in windowed mode, my devices would overheat, again!
I've already had to spend $80 upgrading to a new power supply because my machine, which can run almost every game I can find with max settings, couldn't handle the excess demand from FFXIV's inefficient coding and broke with a "Snap!" in Gridania.

What you are suggesting, I presume, is that I scrap the functionality of my duel monitor setup in order to run FFXIV.

Again no.. I run 4 screen, I wouldn't give up my extra screens at all and rarely run anything in full screen. But I've had no issue miss clicking anyway so meh...
(As for overheating when not in full screen that needs looking into as it shouldn't really be an issue at all)

The Move them to another location was talking about the in game widgets/UI.
So they are not in a location where you would be at risk of Miss Clicking and killing the game. Sorry I had thought that would be clear, but again i was drunk at the time.

The only obvious solutions I can see, other then running in windows, which you say you cant.. Is to learn not to click outside the window, or run the game on your other screen seem to be your only choices.

So before you rant, read an think, as nothing in my post told you to " disable or disconnect " anything.
Neither did it in the other one, I had just presumed, all be it wrongly that it would have some software to assign features to its extra keys..

You're asking SE to fix something they don't actually see as a problem. In SE's eyes if you want to act the current way you are you will play the game in their windowed mode. See they don't expect everyone to play on dual screens, nor do they expect people to alt tab, need to change volume, or anything that would pop something up. This is only a problem to us because other mmos let you do it, to SE this is not a standard and they feel no reason to change it right away. So while you think we tell you to disable devices, really what we're telling you is the only way, they're not going to fix it. If you don't like it, its your choice to play the game. Its just the truth. The UI is also moveable, so in SE opinion you are now just unwilling to move objects in your UI that make this happen. The hotbar for menu/chocobo and the S/R widget are moved on my screen to places they don't interrupt the dual screen. Just sayin' you can't really ask for change about this when they don't view it as a problem.

    Marquisbern,

What has already been stated in this thread is more or less correct. By design, FINAL FANTASY XIV will close out once the game is no longer the focus, when running in full-screen mode. The windowed mode has been provided for those that wish to perform other tasks while playing FINAL FANTASY XIV.

And that's a problem with SE, and why FFXIV has not made the splash they wanted, because they're in the PC Stone Age still. These are standard features, and this is 2011: a stable client is expected from any responsible company of this size. Asking for a change is entirely reasonable, and having to change existing setups that work for virtually *every other major release in the last few years* is unreasonable.

There is no player to which your crashing is an asset.

I've never met someone who was thankful that you've intentionally left in all these ways to crash the system.
I don't know how to deal with a company that thinks sees not wanting the program to crash as an option or a preference.

Between this as the typo causing FFXIV to crash I don't exactly see why I'm expected to go though all these loopholes.
Even if I "choose" to not play the game I've already set down a big chunk of my poverty wages on the collector's edition.
I meet the system requirements, but Square Enix has programmed it to crash on me, on purpose, as a feature.

There's still something really wrong here. Last letter from the producer came with not one but two apologies, but when it comes to the most requested features (AH & client stability), SE responds with a united "no".

(P.S. Esk, I don't know how you imagine me playing with the all the UI clustered on one side of the screen, but yes, that would alleviate the keyboard problem. You may have seen an earlier post, that my UI is resetting every time I log in, so that solution wouldn't work for too long. Still, I'll give it a try. Esk, thank you for looking into my keyboard software but you've found the drivers for a later model, rather then updated drivers for my model.)

well thats one highly idiotic design. god forbid i might have to look something up on the internet while playing. Oh did i mention WM is totally immersion breaking?...look if yall want to hang with the grown ups in the mmo world, best do away with it in 2.0 or sooner. You wont get another shot and you wont come close to getting that money back with amateur stuff like this. This includes things like AH's and pretty much all the other standard mmo features.
