Opening movie crashes the game

Maybe a system codec is interfering. Not entirely sure how the game handles those.
You can still try to manually play it: "SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XIV\data\8A\D0\00\00.DAT"
MPC HC should work fine for that.

Do you get a XIV-error message, or a windows error message?
If so, what does it say? If not, what happens to the program.
Does it just close? Does it go into "(not responsding)" mode? Is it a blue screen of death?

Right now I see the word "crash" and since I have no context I am imagining those automotive test-dummies...

Sorry, it's a Windows error. FFXIV has stopped responding. If it was a friendly error message I would have included it.

Then I suspect some form of processing problem, but it could be any number of issues.

I'd check your task manager for resource consumption. If it's through the roof (99-100%) then you may have found the issue. What are the rest of your system specs? Graphics cards are sadly not everything.

I played the .dat file in Windows Media Player with no problems at all, so the file is intact. Why is the game still crashing then when it tries to play it? I updated the OP with my specs.

Still crashing on 1.19.

Actually I tried it on 1.18 right before the patch and it was working fine. Imagine that. I viewed the file itself and it's fine. I think that's why it's a bug.
