Im at a college campus and I always have to download the patch directly. They block torrents here and the patcher doesnt work as well. But the patcher works for other games like Rift. So why doesnt Square enix use a better patcher?

Because they don't have to.
And because they like to use all system resources for no reason![]()
I had issues downloading patch 1.19 and 1.19a. During that time I tried various solutions to hopefully get the patch working, here are some of the things I tried and they may work for you.
- My Documents -> My Games -> Final Fantasy XIV -> downloads -> ffxivupdater.exe
When I did this one the update immediately started downloading faster, but only lasted for about 20% of the update. Other people claimed this worked. Right click, run as admin
- Port Forwarding: Make sure you have the appropriate ports open for the FFXIV Patcher. I opened up all the ports on my router and that's what got 1.19 downloaded for me
- Check your NAT settings: My 1.19a download wasn't moving at all. I finally checked my router settings and noticed my NAT firewall was set to "secure" so I changed it to "open." Immediately after the update started to progress and then finish.
- Reset your connection. Once or twice I just closed everything, and re-opened it. The update would start working again after doing so.
All these solutions are somewhat annoying, but hey, they got my patches done. Best of luck to ya. If anyone is still having problems I'll be glad to help you out.
Let slip the dogs of war...
I dont have access to the router cause Im at a college dorm I'd have to call the tech support people
ya at a college ur kinda screwed, you gotta go by there settings. I highly doubt they'll adjust setting just so you can download ffxiv patches
Let slip the dogs of war...
