We used 2 parties to kill nm and rush through. The mages were the only problem. Trick is not to spread your forces to wide and link stuff. We had the same problem b4.
This is good to hear that it will be sorted soon, I do also feel that there needs to be a limit on the amount of monsters that can link at one time, ie if your party has 5 members only a maximum of 5 enemies can link and so on.
This would work quite well for duo's and solo content aswell as full parties.
Also something needs to be done regarding new spawns linking as this can be kind of unfair given how rapid things respawn now.

Ah, I wasn't aware we were talking about the NM. In that case, we used 3 parties for this (totally spontaneous, too!). We camped behind the NM party, at the mouth of the tunnel with the chests. Just pewpew AoE until everything but the NM is dead, is what we did. Worked wonders.
