Not necessarily same type, we know that Amal'jaa use Drakes, Ixali use Wolf and Imperial have Warhound. As long as it makes sense, it should work, but for something random like Opo-Opo and Mole it should not.

Yeah, that's true. All the tribes should link with their minions as well probably.
