Most games don't even keep old event items around at all. Even if they run a similar event the next year, it's got new rewards and the old ones simply aren't able to be obtained. Having them in the cash shop for a few bucks isn't the end of the world.
I actually forgot they have a completely free version, but regardless, the higher packages should be something that you can obtain with in-game gold. They could make it cost quite a bit of gold, but it should be something that people can work towards in-game.
I'm not quite sure which way you're leaning on this one, but what is wrong with people who were not around for previous events NOT being able to obtain a special item? Then new players or existing that missed the event will complain about them not being able to get the item cause they missed the event. The Gold Saucer could used for this but without the cash shop it most likely would just become a unobtainable item which circles back to the first part of my post.
As Risvertasashi mentioned above, an easy solution could be for them to sell the previous event gear at the NPCs for a nominal fee while the current event is going on. XI does this, and I believe XIV used to do it as well. So those new players could still get their spiffy gear, they'd just have to wait for the actual event to come back around.
Take a look at Silkroad ...
A Premium Ticket for 30$/€ : Instant Login when Servers are full, 10% Phy/Mag.Dmg Increase, same for Defense, INT/STR Increase, Luck Increase
Grappet for 30 Days is about 10€ with only around 30-40 Slots. If you want more you need to pay extra Slots for the Grappet...
Dress (You have to buy three Dresses / Glamours, one for PvP, one for PvE and one for Crafting/Alchemy (Plusing your Items...)
A Item called Devil Spirit / Angel Spirit which transforms you either in a Devil or a Holy Angel Knight (20-25% DMG Increase, you can buy Stones for this to enhance the Spirit Item even further, having 35% DMG Inc, more Movement Speed and Blocking Rate)
^ Biggest Items and most bought, want to know the smallest things?
10.000 Potions, (NPC Potions Stacks are 50), 10.000 Arrows/Bolts (NPC ones are 250 stacks), Teleport Scrolls, DMG / DEF Scrolls, Ressurection Scrolls (EXP regained), EXP Tickets, Skill Point Tickets, Alchemy Items, Skill Reallocation Potions, Growth Pets, Ride Pets.
Is that not enough? Alright, for those who play the Game for free and not even using the Item Mall, when you have reached Lv.101, you need to buy a Item in the Item Mall to upgrade your Weapon else you can suck it up and forget PvP / Events.
This simply means, if you pay, you have a huuuuuuge Advantage over Players who play for free. FFXIV better stays Pay2Play else it meets the same "FATE".
I didn't say anything about people not being able to able to obtain items, this thread is about a cash shop and people not wanting a cash shop. I pointed out gold saucer option being were person could buy with gil or GS points but SE has not done that so it either cash shop or come unobtainable.I'm not quite sure which way you're leaning on this one, but what is wrong with people who were not around for previous events NOT being able to obtain a special item?

This is a logical fallacy known as a False Dichotomy.I didn't say anything about people not being able to able to obtain items, this thread is about a cash shop and people not wanting a cash shop. We had alternatives to obtain the items before the cash shop. We lost them when SE put in the cash shop. We could have them back if SE did away with the cash shop, and we would have even more options SE could use for that now.
They won't. For business reasons. But saying the alternatives are "cash shop or unobtainable" is just plain wrong.
I feel I should note that I have a few bottles of Fantasia and have never spent any money in the cash shop other than to buy the more expensive eternal bond option. I think you get them occasionally as part of rewards for being lovely and subbing for lengths of time or something, not sure.Of the remaining items there are 2 packages for upgrades to the eternal bond (including bridal chocobo), 4 minions, 3 dyes available singly or in packs of 10, and fantasia available in 1, 3 or 5 pack; and finally the Slepnir mount.
That's perhaps 10 unique items that have never been available in-game.
I always see extra retainers as a cheap alternative to buying "mule" second accounts like people often did for FFXI and I believe still do for a lot of games (even FFXIV, despite the retainer option).
The other stuff I dislike having the cash shop for. I feel everything should be obtainable in game. I don't mind a cash shop for vanity items that are obtainable in game for people who can't be bothered putting in the hard work, but for those that don't want to spend their money above and beyond what a sub offers, I think there should be methods to obtain said items.
Having said all that, it's not like it's a lot of money they're asking for, nor do I feel the items are anything I feel I'm missing out on, so I don't really get that bothered.
doop doop
You derailed your own argument, exactly why it cash shop or unobtainable is because of business reasons, they want he $$ for the items from the cash shop. This is a logical fallacy known as a False Dichotomy.

Destiny is such a burn. Stopped playing after first "expansion" I am much more happy here.

Really dont even like the prices in the cash shop, have been avoiding it like the plague. We used to get neat seasonal stuff for free in early 1.0-2.0... its obvious the game is successful, now its come to milking. Im not going to pay 3$ for some earings. I might have paid 99 cents but these prices are stupid when paying a sub fee.
If your testing the waters for f2p with cash shop then atleast lower sub pricing. Then maybe I'll consider touching the cash shop at these prices...
I wasn't trying to put words in your mouthI didn't say anything about people not being able to able to obtain items, this thread is about a cash shop and people not wanting a cash shop. I pointed out gold saucer option being were person could buy with gil or GS points but SE has not done that so it either cash shop or come unobtainable.I truthfully wasn't sure of the intent of your comment, if you were just throwing that out as a possible reaction (people claiming it's not fair they can't get something), or if you also felt the same. So my question was more of a general one - what is so bad about players not being able to get items from events they missed? Hope that makes sense.
The Golden Saucer could be a great way to add special items to the game. I personally would lean towards keeping holiday event gear tied to the holiday itself, but for any new/unique fluff gear, the Saucer could definitely be an option.
