Yep. That's the feeling I want from a Final Fantasy game. The same amusement feeling I had when Edgar would use his KO versio of Chainsaw, or when I lost battle because my Desperation Attack didn't go out while in critical. This is what FF should feel like, not some normal stat based super-balanced game.
And again I point you to FFXI. Not everything is RNG-based there. You have straight increases and improvements on skills.

What people are also asking for is the ability to have to make choices based on actually relevant substats. Just as random example, you may have something that improves your MP regeneration by a percentage for long, MP taxing fights, or something that improves the potency of your Regen. Different gear and stats for different situations.

FFXIV is as bare bones as it gets when it comes to gear and customization. Free to Play games designed around attracting the largest audience possible have more options.
