This is probably one of the better things they could adapt from modern MMOs like WoW or GW2
I'd like the ability to requeue, but I'm actually actively championing FFXIV style dungeon finder in wow.

No realm names. No whispers. A lot harder to shit talk other players when you don't immediately know where they're from and can't talk behind their back, complaining at the healer to let them die because they suck. Crapping on them because they're from from servers with reputations (ie; Moon Guard, ERP central), etc.

Limiting cross realm activities promotes server community. You want a raid static? Find one on your realm. PUG a jerk? He'll get a rep for being one. Allows for personal accountability that WoW's cross realm stuff doesn't.

I don't think it needs to be similar in every aspect to WoW's cross-server system. For example, as you mentioned, WoW allows for whispering between players from different servers, however, FFXIV could disallow this option unless players add each other to their friends list first. Realm name could also remain hidden until this happens as well.

I do understand your argument about maintaining server community and free companies, so perhaps SE could limit certain activities from being open to cross-server. Using your example, current raid content could remain closed to your server only, while older or repeatable content could be open to cross-server friends.
