Please implement a Cross-Server Friends List

I think it goes without saying, a cross-server friends list (within your data center) that would allow you to group with friends on other servers for Duty Finder would greatly increase the enjoyment and sociability of this game. Not only that, but it would also allow players to befriend other people that they enjoyed playing with in a dungeon, raid, or frontline. It also provides players, who might be on a low populated server, another method of having players to group with.

Most of the time, dungeons are generally quiet because some players have the mentality "why talk or befriend these people in my group when I'm never going to group with them again?" However, with the ability to actually add these players to your friends list and group with them again would be a step in the right direction with making the game more sociable.

One of the big things about an MMORPG is that it fosters a unique medium of community and friendship that other games cannot. As we can observe in other popular MMORPGs, they offer this cross-server ability by simply adding the player's account name or gamer tag, rather than the character name.

Although this feature is not likely to be implemented anytime soon, I believe SE should really consider it down the road to make FFXIV feel like a real MMORPG.

WoW added this and I feel it was one of the causes of community decline, especially with cross realm grouping.

It's great for when you've got friends on other servers but doesn't encourage you to make friends on your own.

The game already doesn't encourage this with the nature of the Duty Finder and 8 man static content.

I'd gladly welcome a cross server Friends list or at the very least an ability to re queue with party if i meet a cool group in like a Primal fight or Alexander.

This is probably one of the better things they could adapt from modern MMOs like WoW or GW2

For me, it was WotLK's anonymous duty finder that killed server community, which we already have in FFXIV. However, being able to run things with friends on other servers was great when it was later implemented.

Grouping for harder content could be disabled cross-server, like WoW has done. Then, if it were implemented, people would still be making friends locally.

Also your miqote is one of the prettiest ever ♥

edit to include I don't necessarily think that you need to "go" to their server in any capacity if partied, it could be more restrictive. I would just like to chat with or maybe run a dungeon with my coworker without transferring to his server, leaving my game friends behind ^^

What is this social decline people speak of? Has WoW's community declined into mass social anarchy? Is it now a world where it's killed or be killed? Do the living now feed off the dead? Please tell me! For last I checked it was just a game people still are supposedly playing and enjoying!?

I'd like the ability to requeue, but I'm actually actively championing FFXIV style dungeon finder in wow.

No realm names. No whispers. A lot harder to shit talk other players when you don't immediately know where they're from and can't talk behind their back, complaining at the healer to let them die because they suck. Crapping on them because they're from from servers with reputations (ie; Moon Guard, ERP central), etc.

Limiting cross realm activities promotes server community. You want a raid static? Find one on your realm. PUG a jerk? He'll get a rep for being one. Allows for personal accountability that WoW's cross realm stuff doesn't.

I don't think it needs to be similar in every aspect to WoW's cross-server system. For example, as you mentioned, WoW allows for whispering between players from different servers, however, FFXIV could disallow this option unless players add each other to their friends list first. Realm name could also remain hidden until this happens as well.

I do understand your argument about maintaining server community and free companies, so perhaps SE could limit certain activities from being open to cross-server. Using your example, current raid content could remain closed to your server only, while older or repeatable content could be open to cross-server friends.

Only if they debut a cross-server blacklist at the same time. It doesn't seem to make much sense to have one without the other.

WotLK's dungeon finder was originally server only. Then restricted to battlegroup(FFXIV is limited to datacenter).

The faction thing made some servers impossible to do dungeons that weren't max level on. Cho'gall for example, had less than 100 people on alliance side during prime time sometimes. That's why they added it.

Raiding was server only until Mists of Pandaria, outside LFR, and that was added late in Cataclysm... Which sucked then.

They're blurring the lines between realms more and more with connected realms and now Mythic raiding, last bastion of server community, is gone cross realm with 6.2.3.
