Don't get me wrong; I play tank to tank. But if someone is already familiar with tank mechanics like it's second nature, wouldn't it be just right to at least contribute to the raid's overall damage.

Again, don't get me wrong; by playing tank, I mean that you do not put unwanted stress on your healers and still put out decent numbers that will help speed up the raid.

I guess you're one of those SMNs that does not Resurrect dead allies when the situation calls for it since you're a DPS and that is only your job - to DPS. I'm sorry, but I will not take that lame excuse to not do the best you can to contribute.

Because I don't like the idea of dps. I don't like to do everything I can to maximize damage done by every mean possible.

I have ALWAYS rolled tank, bruisers and support roles in every game I played (at least when I could choose a defined role). I like to bring utility, take hits and work with my group who bring what I can't (i.e, heals and damage. Though I can heal now in FFxiv). Big numbers ? sure they're fun to see, but I don't make these my goal. Else, as I said, I'd roll a dps.

This is what I meant when I said that the trinity was broken now. You're just playing a dps that has a few defensive abilities at the cost of a slightly lower dps. Along with dps that can heal. At this point, 2 years in the game, I feel like we have the trinity only because we don't have an active combat system like korean MMOs where you can dodge/perfect block everything if you're good enough. Because both FFxiv and these korean MMO revolve only around damage done and totally ignore the trinity's meaning, which is just left around as flavor gameplay.

personnal attacks won't get you anywhere in an argument. I play the jobs with everything they have at disposal, even going as far as to dps as much as possible in jobs that shouldn't focus on damage. but as I said, the limit is near, and if the game jumps deeper in the "dps only" abyss, I might just screw it all and become a "lazy scrub" healer, as we can read every so often on these forums.

This game is not like other MMOs where you have to re-level a character.

Personally, the main issue is if you remove the DPS optimization element of tanking, the job lacks depth. As is, you're planning your GCD usage down to each single GCD for 10 minute progression fights in order to maximize DPS. If just surviving was your only concern as a tank, the fights would be really, really simple. Planning a CD rotation for fights is not that hard and will never be that hard. What's hard is surviving while pushing your DPS to the brink.

So this actually goes back to their tank design being pretty bland.

For them to redirect the meta away from the current focus on DPS, they would need to do a lot more to add depth to their tank and healer classes. They could just add more tank and healer specific mechanics but then it's just a different gimmick. The substance is still flawed.
