I think they should free up the glamour all-around. Even as far as simply being able to wear the elezen hempen undershit on my AuRa

Just as an fyi, SE has stated that they reason why they haven't done this yet is because going from "Female model -> Male Model" is apparently much harder than "Male model -> female model", not because of societal expectations.

Ideally I'd prefer they'd make every gear set unisex with as little changes as possible. I'm still annoyed that I can't wear a coatee without it showing off cleavage or wear DRG AF without having a massive gut window to be stabbed, I'd hope that the same issue doesn't occur where the spring dress suddenly becomes the spring robe if a dude puts it on.

I'd like altered versions of items. Females get both Thavarian chest pieces. The male one is altered for females. I'd like bunny ears. Whats stopping me from putting them on!? I think there is only one or two male items in the game while females have many.

A few comments after reading through everything.

    - To the people who are making jokes or witty suggestions about trans people, please realise that you are missing the point. Many trans (transgender/transsexual) people are already amply catered for with the existence of a gender selection during character creation and the fantasia system; making fun of them here isn't relevant or kind. There are two main factions arguing for more equality in glamour choices for male characters, those who want to dress male characters up in feminine outfits (transvestism, it's not the same thing) either because they like to challenge gender norms or just think it looks good, and then there are those who want more glamour options for men and support adapting the female-locked outfits into more masculine equivalents to even the balance. I think most of us will honestly take either option, so long as something is done to redress the balance. There's no need to question anyone's gender identity in the process, thanks!

    - The counter that it's only clothing and isn't important doesn't add up. It's not only clothing to Square-Enix; they go as far as releasing catalogues in Japan showing off glamours as one of the game's selling points. It's not fair that half of the players have their access to this aspect of the game limited for no real reason.

    - The argument that Japan is socially conservative than whichever country the original poster is from, which means that guys have to have a smaller selection of clothing to choose from, is not fair. They allowed same-sex marriage, which is considerably more contentious as a social issue than a guy simply wearing a pair of bunny ears. There are already several progressive and - dare I say - kinky outfits that can be worn by male characters intent on sporting a more sexualised look, and nothing is stopping anyone stripping down to their underwear and dancing in the middle of Limsa Lominsa whenever they want to. It's true that people all over the world are still nervous about people who defy accepted gender norms but that ship sailed a long time ago in FFXIV.

    - The excuse that it's harder to fit feminine outfits on a male model is simply nonsense. I will accept that there is quite a lot of work involved for many outfits and they've rationalised that it's not a good use of their time to adapt them, but there are several examples which directly invalidate this argument on a wider scale. They already fit one 'female' outfit on a male character as has been mentioned yet it's still unavailable to players. There are many outfits which would fit almost identically on a male model, needing at most the removal of a piece of fabric here and there rather than anything new adding. And why on earth are several hats gender-locked? Simply unlocking the completely unnecessary gender-locked outfits would go a long way towards fixing the imbalance without any real effort. I don't even care if they clip.

Ultimately, I play a male character by choice and love the experience. I don't want to change my character's gender and I'm very happy with the quality of the clothing options available to me. However, unless they're going to start warning people on the character selection screen or game box that choosing a male character will be disadvantageous to the player later on when they find their gear options more limited, it's ridiculous to see the same pattern with 'female' and 'unisex' versions of new outfits repeated over and over. The person who observed that the 'male' versions are being opened up to women just because someone on the design team thinks girls in suits look cute is absolutely right.

Don't compare fetishes to things like marriage OP, that's extremely stupid.

So.... you mean it's more appropriate to discriminate due to gender than due to sexuality? Neither is okay. In my opinion, wanting to wear skirts isn't neccessarily transvestitism, same as wanting to wear trousers as a woman isn't neccessarily transvestitism. It can be a simple matter of liking the aesthetics or (IRL) because it's comfortable, or any other reason you like.
The idea that it's okay for a woman to wear trousers but not okay for a man to wear skirts is based on gender discrimination. Stemming from the notion that 'female' is weaker than 'male' and that the male is something to strive for, of course, but still gender discrimination.

(And yes, I know you didn't say that, but it's what can be read from what you said ^^; )

*cough* Nothing as such, but... I have a FemRoe alt, and when I tried on the Valentoine top... she looks like a bad crossdresser O.o I'll see if I can remember to get a screenshot and post it. (Of course, that I chose to give her 100 muscle tone and lower-than-50 bust size due to realism doesn't really help...)

    You mean this dress?

I don't think it looks too bad. Mind you I'm max muscle, bust, and height. The only dress I think looks bad on FemRoes is the bridesmaid one. The thing is though I think that bridesmaid dress looks horrible on everyone.
