I don't get the issue. Male/Female can be changed easily enough in game so any transpeople wouldn't need to cross dress... they just change gender?? Maybe I'm missing something.
Perhaps the standard in Eorzea, or perhaps all of Hydaelyn, this is the societal standard.
You shouldn't enforce your values unto other cultures.

You have a point, don't trans people crossdress because they believe they fit with the other gender better? I could be entirely wrong, so please do correct me if I am. Having your gender changed irl is both a huge hassle, legally, mentally, and cost wise too, whereas in FFXIV you could roll that gender to begin with, or change for $10. I've seen people talk about it like "I want my Roe to look like a sexy stripper wearing the Thav set" which is... uhm, whatever? I mean, if you're into that there's plenty of material outside of FFXIV for it. This isn't a game that is aiming to appease to those needs.
But I do think they should introduce many more male exclusive sets to bring them to an even level of females, even if it means a few patches where female characters get nothing for Gold Saucer rewards and the like.
well my bigest point isnt the cross dressing or the trans factor its that it should be even for all users of the game to dress how they want not make sets exclusive to one gender wile makeing the oposet unisex like why make a top that both male and female can ware but not make the female equivalent unisex also why is it only the male set that is unisex its just a dubble standerd and i feel like it should be a = across the bord sorta thing like make a set for both genders just change the slight look of it like make the set for bothe genders thats my only point im trying to make sorry if that mad no sence at all at some point i was just rambleing lol but hopefuly you guys get my point
In a way, that'd be fine. But... then there's the matter of pretty much every outfit so far that they intended to be male-only. Where one person or another has gone, "Wait, wouldn't this look cute on a female character? Let's make it unisex instead!" And I admit there's this worry in the back of my head telling me that if they start to make something and have the 'no, the gear has to be male-only, not unisex' order... that if they make a design and realize it'd look cute on females, they'll put that design aside and make a less appealing design for the current task. And while this may be just paranoia, I'd rather not risk having sub-standard male apparel. Just like how 'formal wear' for a man is a lot more limiting than 'formal wear' for a woman.Genuine question, not against gender equality in any way, but wouldn't you rather SE create a new male outfit for every female one instead of just allowing the males to wear dresses etc?
Again, I have no problem if males want to wear dresses, just a thought I had which would make it fair on everyone.
So for me, I'd rather have the current female-only gear made unisex. With a few modifications if worn by a male, similar to how the current unisex outfits add bras (for example) to the female-worn variety. So maybe the thavnairian 'dress' on a male character wouldn't have a bra on the top half, but just the jewelry bits, like one suggestion or other in the thread (linked above) with example images.
Personally, I wouldn't mind the outfits looking slightly different depending on which gender wore them (similar to the Eerie Skirt, Soldiery Tomestone Caster fishnets/tights or the bliauds and coatees), as long as male and female characters had the same number of available glamour sets. It's the constant "women get two, men get one" release pattern that has me annoyed. And while they have promised a more equal release pattern, I'd also like them to go back and fix the already-existing inbalance. ^^
Spoilers ahead
Also, a certain Hildibrand quest involving a spring dress backs up what another player said about cross-dressing being humorous. This isn't meant to offend anyone, this is just another example of why it could be considered 'out of the norm.'
@Noxifer, I agree with what you're sayingmakes perfect sense to make minor adjustments and have them unisex.

I think it should be allowed. Men can wear dresses and skirts if they want to. So why not let them wear it in game?
I fully support males being able to wear the 'feminine' gear. I want my character to be able to wear a cute skirt, its incredibly frustrating that I am unable to dress up my male character like I would a female one, especially since I can do that with female characters with 'male' items.
Females in tuxes are okay, but males in dresses are not? That is such a double standard that I hate both in the game and in real life. And I don't want to change my characters gender just to wear nice things, and I shouldn't have to.
