Is SE still being mindful about PS3 when making these changes?

I've been noticing, as time goes on, that a lot of the intentional delays put into FFXIV are being removed.

While this is amazing for a PC game exclusive to have no delays, I believe the original intent of some of this purposeful lag was for balancing with the PS3, as FFXI did with the PS2.

Will the PS3 still be able to compete?
I ask because I played DC Universe Online, and I have to say that game was dreadfully laggy. Menu lag was insane, loading times were awful, occasionally clipping issues and frame rates in town were apparent. Although usually once an area was fully loaded, assuming you didn't need to open a menu, the game was alright.

Menus had about a 3 second delay per screen, no joke.

So, back to the original question - By removing all of these delays, which I am not objecting to, and very much welcoming, how does this affect the playability on the significantly slower PS3? Especially with the planned future implementation of PvP?

I am very much looking forward to the PS3 version, as I have many friends waiting for it to play the game (hey not everyone can just "afford" a ffxiv-compatible pc, namely teachers), but I can't help but have some concern that the new direction of the game seems to be creating a barrier that will prevent the release of a balanced FFXIV for PS3.

(think about how many non-mmo games on ps3 have bad menu lag or loading times... and then play dc-universe, and ask yourself how well ffxiv can perform)

That's not hardware problem, that's a development problem.

    significantly slower PS3?
Please refer to the link in my sig.

The game was designed with PS3 in mind. It's being tested on the PS3 still. The issues with menu lag are server/software related. The only real issue holding the PS3 back as far as we know is memory management issues.

But since no one is able to play the PS3 version yet, why did you even bother to ask?

Less characters on the screen at once (how much less depends on how well they can optimize the client still), smaller areas, basically slightly less stuff going on than usual. Still looks gorgeous though, so it's not a big deal.

They're much better at optimizing for PS3 rather than PC anyway so they'll get most power out of the console.

Call me a fanboy but I think FF XIV will play better on PS3, if it ever releases that is, which isn't looking likely.

It will be released, but the game needs to be in a good state first, also FFXIV for the PS3 is being scaled back with reduced graphics (720p) and other things so I doubt it'll play better than a PC

Well FFXIV was supposed to be 3D which would limit it to 720p. Although I imagine the 3D will be scrapped.

wish they would do away wit ps3 idea so enter does not have to be pressed on everything u do. this is ps3s fault they leaving it there so u can press X on anything u do or w/e its crap and reason ffxiv will not compare to the speed of other mmos.

You're...kidding, right? You think the game will play better on a 6 year old console than an up to date PC? R-really?

Yes i do, mostly down to controls and comfort. I much preferd playing FF XI on PS2 and Xbox to PC. Doesn't matter how up to date your PC is we all know this games engine is rubbish and performance could still be better. For all we know it could run better on PS3. It is the engine that built FF 13. The age of PS3 doesn't mean a thing I still think PS3's top exclusive games look better than most PC games. It's a powerful console certainly good enough for FF XIV.
