Raise your hand if you think that Forgemaster gear should have better stats than Forgekeep gear.

It already has better stats when melded, which is the point of getting the gear that takes much less time to get than the unmeldable Forgekeep gear.
i170 Master chest piece - 225 craft / 70 control / 4 CP
i180 Keep chest piece - 239 craft / 75 control / 4 CP
i170 Master chest piece with practical melds - 253 craft / 78 control / 4 CP (2 Craftsmanship V, 1 Craftsmanship IV, 2 Control IV)
Keep in mind for the practical melds, I'm assuming we're in 3.1 and SE has implemented a reasonable way to acquire tier V crafting materia.
The 170 gear and accessories are of course better ->only IF<- you have the money and the materias to meld and overmeld. The 180 gear is not bad AT ALL. my BSM got all the ilvl 180 gear (I'm gonna get the MH too) and I craft comfortably . The key point in crafting in HW is that you must have the CP, as the durability bar has been increased and you need as many HT in order to get HQ (unless you got all mats in HQ) that means using WN2 and MM2.
In my opinion the best way to go for gearing , effective and CHEAPER will be :
MH ilvl180 (+4 cp included)
OH ilvl170
Head / body / hands ilvl180 (+4 cp included)
Belt ilvl170
Legs / feet / accessories ilvl170
Like that you will have optimal Cp for an easy craft as every piece will have +4 cp and you will spend less money buying materias and melding those extra 4 pieces This is the way I go about it and it works perfectly for me.
Well...those practical melds are unaffordable for most crafters out there. Control IV is around 100k on my server...melding two of them with about 7% success rate is something I'm not even going to consider (we're probably talking about 10mln gil of lost materia there).i170 Master chest piece - 225 craft / 70 control / 4 CP

Actually I feel like the MH is the only lvl180 crafing gear that it's worth your red tokens.
How much is Control III on your server? The price difference is pretty massive on my server between III and IV. If you use two III instead of two IV you're missing out on 2 control (nothing major at all).Well...those practical melds are unaffordable for most crafters out there. But that's silly, since if you lose 2 control then you end up with 76 control, as opposed to the i180 which has 75. It's 1 more control for however much gil again? You do get 14 craft, but is 14 craft + 1 control worth potentially millions of gil? And for that purpose, is 14 craft + 3 control worth it as well? I feel like they just want us to craft the i170 gear to dye it and that's it, because you can't dye the scrips gear. And that's really stupid because you can dye the gathering red scrips gear, since you can't craft any of it. It's such a gigantic price for what ultimately is just... a tiny difference in stats, and the ability to dye it. Same for the requirement of AS3 to be to dye DoW/M gear as well, is dying gear worth that much of a hassle?
