If a tank were to gain hate, then stop attacking till they needed to regain it wouldn't you view them as being lazy? It's the same with healers who just top off the tank and stand there doing nothing.

This is a poor example.If a tank needs to regain hate that means theyve lost it, at which point you failed your primary role, which is to tank.


A healer not dpsing is not failing the primary role they have.


As was said before, unless content demands tanks or healers to dps, then it is completely optional
