At 725 I get 85% so that's around where you want to be for a Sharp Vision II to get you 100%. I was able to get to 725 with 2 star offhand and accessories with heavy melds all around, no 180 gear.

Oh really?! This sound awesome. This might be what i need to save that 52 tokens on MIN & BOT weapons. Care to share how you melded your accessories? I could only afford two IV per accessories.
Edited:
on the 2nd thought, if i upgrade my accessories, it would only give me +10 total gathering as compared to having a +48 from i180 weapon. Shame![]()

I'm at 736 gathering on my botanist by only having i170 off-hand and belt with everything else i150 or lower. That requires some pretty heavy overmelding though... I think my melds looked something like this: http://ffxiv.ariyala.com/RSIUOh really?! This sound awesome. This might be what i need to save that 52 tokens on MIN & BOT weapons. Keep in mind, there are better melding schemes; I melded most of my gear early in 3.0 (near the end of June) before the melding caps were widely known. I would not suggest melding exactly like this, but you can probably use this information to create a better melding scheme for yourself.
http://ffxiv.ariyala.com/RSJ0 - 725/725/700 with NQ Beef Stew
A few things I aimed for:
- No 180 gear, can upgrade to main hand later on. I use all my tokens for favors to gear up my crafters so spending a ridiculous amount of tokens on one item is a no-no right now.
- 720ish range on gather/perc to prepare for 3.1 nodes.
- 700 GP. A luxury more than a necessity.
- Vendor food. Crafting HW master food is a pain for quantity. Lots of duskborne, unspoiled/legendary mats, time consuming to craft lots of HQ. NQ Beef Stew is 6 gathering / 24 GP at 40k for a 99 stack in Ishguard. This seems very ideal and convenient. A lot of people plan for HQ Chysahl and while it sounds good on paper, in reality this is going to be a hassle. Vendor food makes each one pretty much a throwaway so I don't have to think about popping for just one node, while HQ Chysahl is a lot of investment and you're not going to want to just throw those away. Believe me on this one.
But yeah, every piece is pentamelded and will be pricey if you don't have access to airships, gil, or do a lot of your own SB'ing.
