A User Interface "Reshaping" Option: Modded or Unmodder?

    To the Developers,

For a while, I have been playing FFXIV on a Razer Naga mouse, which has the 1~= keys mapped to a 3x4 set of button; this has got me thinking, "why do user interfaces only offer straight hotbars?"

Currently, upon consideration, I decided I wanted to display my hotbar buttons in the shape of the button layout on this mouse, as it helps visually remind me where the positions of my skills are on these mouse buttons; I find it helps, given my particular cognitive issues. However, I am currently using four of the six horizontal hotbars (for certain reasons) in order to get the layout as I need it to be; this setup has limited my ability to use certain macro scripts that I designed, as I am forced to make individual configurations for each hotbar, occupying ~2-3 lines per hotbar in order for hotbars to reset correctly

Therefore, back to the topic at hand, how difficult would it be for hotbars to be reshaped, not by curving or making complex shapes, but by allowing the hotbar "block" to be resized to not just the default 12 by 1 (or 1 by 12, in the case of vertical hotbars), but having blocks of 6 by 2, 4 by 3, and so forth? There would no longer be a need for separate vertical bars, as they could be adjusted to use 1 by 12 configurations to make them vertical, and vice-versa.

I am considering that, given players will spend a significant amount of time using (looking at) these hotbars, and considering that display resolutions differ from player to player, it's well worth considering. However, if this is not enough to award it consideration for vanilla configurations, might some headway be granted if addon development were to be implemented in future patches, as I believe it is, ergonomically, a sensible idea.

It might be nice to give hotbars customisation in the form of "number of rows" - by default this would be 1 to give a horizontal hotbar. 2 would give two rows of six, 3 gives three rows of four, 4 four rows of three, 6 six rows of two and 12 twelve rows of one (ie. vertical hotbar). In addition, an "offset" for each row could be handy, so you can have a single hotbar for

    QWER
    .ASDF
    ..ZXCV

Certainly, my Roccat ISKU keyboard, with it's "Easy-Shift" feature that specifically gives additional keybinds for "CapsLock+[letter in QRVZ area]", would greatly benefit from this kind of hotbar layout option.

All in all though, I have had issues trying to get the exact layout I want, either through lack of hotbar quantity or from rigidity of said hotbars. Usually both.

Bluntly... it's probably memory reasons. They couldn't even give us TP bars on the party list without dropping the stat boost display, and there have been other comments to the effect that they're counting the kilobytes when it comes to memory usage.

Ironically, virtually every UI request, including this one, could be filled with decent mod support... Which we were promised at release, but then it kept getting pushed back... As of Heavensward, there was an interview saying they haven't even begun the framework for it, so I'm not expecting to see such support for 2 years at least. If ever...

    Sorry to be the stormcrow...
