Any advise to Zodiac weapons? Im new and needs Help!

Hi!

Reference for Zodiac weapons: Atma (iLvl 100) --> Animus (iLvl 100) --> Novus (iLvl 110) --> Nexus (iLvl 115) --> Zodiac Braves (iLvl 125) --> Zodiac Zeta (iLvl 135)

So I started the quest for Zodiac Weapons. I just got my Zenith Relic Weapons (iLvl 90) last night as a PLD.

I started collecting for my Atmas in FATES. My question is, is it worth it to grind for this Zodiac weapons?

Because currently I have a Mythrite Katzbalger (iLvl 115) that I bought from Market boards and is much greater stats than Atma, Animus, and Novus. And it only cost 70k Gils.

Anyone can advise me if I should invest my time for the Zodiac weapons? Or just loot from dungeons or harvest Allagan Tomestone in exchage of better weapons? Can someone guide me to a path were. Im just a casual gamer who enjoys in my own pace.

It's a lot of work, and at this point, only of cosmetic usefulness. I wouldn't do it.

The zodiac quest line was the way to get the best weapon possible in ARR. The biggest benefit to the weapon was that you could customize its stats completely to fit your playstyle. Wanted STR and no parry? You could do that.

When you factor in the maximum possible stats on it, the Nexus is better than the Katzbalger. If you upgrade it further to Excalibur and Excalibur Zeta, the weapon is technically the best weapon at level 50. Just be aware it will cost you a few months and some tens-of-thousands gil (maybe millions if you actually slot it like pre-expansion players did) to get it up there.

Since the expansion though, the weapon is overshadowed by higher level gear. It is a very good weapon and will last you until level 56. BTW, you can conceivably level up to level 60 within 1 week and have i180 gear at the end of it. Give yourself one month and you will have the i200 weapon. It just depends how valuable that item level and time is to you.

If you're at level 50, the novus weapon is needed to get the zeta weapon and getting that weapon is essentially your endgame if you stay at that level. There's no reason not to work on it. If you're getting the expansion and going to 60 though, getting the novus and zodiac weapon probably isn't worth it. They are releasing a new zodiac weapon quest for lvl60s in a month or 2 months after all.

Ok so maybe I'll just do the zodiac quest line when I fell like I'm doing it. Yes I think I'll just do it for glamour. For stats wise, maybe not. Because there are a lot greater gears now right?

I'm doing it (BRD & NIN weapons both at Atma level now, working on Animus books), but mainly for the satisfaction of having completed everything. (I'm also staying at level 50 until I complete everything available at 50, leveling all my jobs, getting/upgrading these weapons, doing all the ARR side-stories and dungeons, etc. so it's going to be a long time before I have access to weapons better than an upgraded relic.)

The only stage I'm leery about is Novus (the one needing all that materia). I have some of the lower level materia stockpiled from gear I converted after leveling up past its useful range, but not enough of it and almost no higher level materia, so I'd have to do either a lot of spiritbonding or grind for a lot of gil.

The rest of the upgrade process looks pretty fun, though. I'm enjoying the Animus books that send me around to various different areas doing a wide variety of things. Like many things in the game, it comes down to do it if you like doing it.

Wow Niwashi you are hardcore man. Leveling everyhting is difficult and FFXIV would be part of your everyday life. What server are you? You been a great help and replied to me from my past threads. I appreciate it.
Yes maybe we can make it just for the sake of achievement. Yes it sounds fun, Im also planning to upgrade mine from time to time.

Maybe in the future we can display our precious weapons in our FC or private chambers

Well i have 2 Zeta Weapons (Bard and Blm) 2 Novus weapons, 1 animus weapon.
Cost of materia has gone way down from what it used to be, like determination material was 600K each and i lost so many of them
Now i think they are less then 100K, go figure...
At this point in time however you do not have to worry about min-maxing the stats, like others have said it is mainly glamour for now.
The entire quest line for Relic has been nerfed so takes far less long then when first introduced, so i say go for it and take your time. Just do not do multiple full Relics like i have, you may loose your sanity, lol
My first Relic had taken me a little over 4 months just to get atma alone and now all 12 can be done in less then a week, just so you have an idea of how much it was nerfed

wow cool thanks, yes I got mt Atma now and yes the it was nerfed. The atma drops are great now. I try to continue to upgrade it when I feel like doing it thank you for your reply

I've made 2 Zetas before Heavensward came out. I wouldn't bother with them unless you:
1. Have every crafter class at 50 with 3* stats or know someone who does and is willing to craft stuff for you
2. Have enough disposable income to spend on materia and the 4 100k gil items you need for the zodiac quests
3. Have a group of people who are willing to run hard mode primals and dungeons with you unsynced

Making a Zodiac Zeta is a lot easier now but you still need to have ready access to Materia, HQ crafted item, Gil, Company Seals and be able to do content quickly for Tombstones of Poetics. There are also no more light farms so the Nexus and Zeta upgrades can be a lot more time consuming than they used to, even with the increased rate on lights.
