i don't know about this although i'm not gonna say it not true, the biggest thing i found when Spiritbonding gear (and this is also mentioned in the Materia user manual next ot the Gob) is the level and class of the gear. i can get spiritbond on a peice of gear that is way over lvl and not for my class but it is painfully slow, where as a peice of gear ment for my class level (+/-4) will go up much much faster.

I don't know, I'm lvl 50, the Dodore is obviously much closer to my lvl than the Dated Velveteen Tights, and Dodore is all by intention good as new (you can meld it too), so that would abolish the theory that Dated spiritbond slower.

While I'm at it, Dated Velveteen Half Apron (Black) is close to max now. Dodore, Vintage Thighboots are still ages away.

Ok I noticed this doing fish>shards on alchemy too. I'm wondering if there's something that they didn't tell us about with their generic statement regarding spiritbonding. I was just randomly watching TV, spamming enter, when I see a message about 'Your XXXX is complete'. Lolwut.

They said 'actions when fighting, crafting or gathering...not XP exclusively. So my guess in light of this, is that if the scenario generates you no XP, you accumulate bonding based on number of actions instead.

"You don't stop playing when you get old, you get old when you stop playing!"

Punctuation is your friend. It deliniates the difference between "Let's eat, Grandma!" and "Let's eat Grandma!"

I think you actually might be able to get crafting materia simply from gear that has a majority of crafting stats on it, but I might be wrong. I have a crafting materia in storage but I didn't take a note of what I got it from. If you can get it from gear with crafting stats you can just battle in gear with those stats that are also DoW/DoM equippable.

That said I'm pretty sure you have a higher chance to get more "relevant" materia from converting tools/weapons. Both Dated Jade crooks I've converted have become Magic attack potency and Magic Crit potency.
