Pre 3.0 Big Fish with Post 3.0 Fish Gear & Hookset ??

Is catching pre 3.0 Big Game Fish like Navigator's Brand with i60 gear easier with higher gathering and perception rate as well as the new skills (Hooksets / Patience), food, FC Buffs, etc... like unsynched Primal/Coil farming? Or are the stats capped like high level roulette? I haven't had much luck so far. I would have assumed that with about 150-200 point increase to both stats (guessing) the fish would be jumping into my bag.

Also, can someone explain the 2 hooksets? I'm not quite sure the description provided means anything - they both say "removes inefficient hookstatus" whatever that means. I'm assuming the red one (Powerful) is to increase the chance of HQ but also increase the risk line-breaking? Vs the green one (Precision) increases the chance of catching anything but lowers the chance it's hq?? Is that about right?

I'm not an expert fisher, although I did get throught the level 60 story quest for fisher.

Big Game Fish are still limited by drop rate, as far as I can tell. Yes, you can catch them because your Gathering/Perception are high enough. No, you won't catch them faster. That being said, you should be able to fish them up at a rate similar to the pre-3.0 game.

Hooksets are useful for gathering HQ fish (the level 60 story quest almost requires their use). Once you use the HQ enhancement (420 GP?), you cast and, when a fish bites, can use the red or green to reel in the fish (rather than the standard one you've been using forever). You'll need them to use with Collecting as well. When to use them either requires experimentation or a bit of understanding regarding the fish 'pulls' ... I tend to use Red if the line has a hard tug, and Green for a lighter tug, but it is really specific to fish on the other end. HQ is still randomized, EXCEPT when you use the HQ enhanced cast, which generally indicates you have 2 minutes of reduced capability to reel it in with the normal ability.

Hope this helps. I'm sure someone else will add to this as necessary. I only fish casually at this point ... not enough time to patiently get through the Big Fish.

In brienf mode, Yes is easier catch pre 3.0 big fish.

Stats obviously better with new gear and the fish remain with minimum needs to caught it (gathering), perception for HQ seems like a fixed minimum\max wall, but also your "fish goes away" is not dependent of stats but just luck, but the main help is Patience/Patience2 & right hookset use because most of big fish need be mooched, and also Patience2 increase slightly the chance of it appears. Also weather not dependent of player. So keep in mind all of this, so you still may see difficult to caught some fish, but will be most based in RNG. But will certainly much more easier than before once you master the use of patience & hooksets & "pulls".

Hook texts are not very helpfull, but seems that Powerfull helps to less get away on medium/big thug, and precision for small thug as general rule but some fish not follow it, just experiment.

Fish Eyes is for now an specific skill used to can get certain fish on certain areas in hw for a very limited time (without fish eye you cannot get that specific fish), not any use in pre-3.0 areas.

Powerful Hookset helps land medium/big fish whilst under patience/patience 2. Precision is for small fish. On a controller, its a single vibration for small fish, 2 vibrations for medium and you will know a big fish tug. Other way you can find out is by lustening to the sound the rod makes when you have a fish on the line.

On the tecnical side, what the hooksets do is negate the inefficient hooking status patience and patience 2 give you for that fish. However, it still doesnt guarantee the landing of the fish, since you then have to fish its HQ rating vs your Gathering stat as well.
