Samurai should be implemented as the dps upgrade from the base class swordsman while the tank upgrade from swordsman is the shogun.

SE should focus on fixing the classes we currently have instead of making new ones.
nerf summoner
I thought Yoshi-P said he imagined SAM as more of a DPS anyways. I'd be happy with either.
Thank God SE has you to keep their priorities straight for them.
I love these replies... 'We can't discuss fun things we'd like to see cause SE has other things they gotta do!'
Crack that whip. Show them whose boss.
Yoshi said this a long time ago before Heavensward. However SAM was being considered as a tank for this expansion (It apparently came down really close to the wire) but they figured DRK fits the overall area and theme of this expansion better, not because of how Yoshi-P feels. They probably still have concepts of how SAM is going to play stored away and ready for later if it really came that close.
Yoshi-P does not make all the development decisions for the game, it's a team effort.

I think Yoshi-P mentioned it in one of his past interviews that SAM would be a DPS class though I wouldn't mind if SAM would be the parry tank.
I don't like Samurai as a Tank.
Come on, another Bi-Hander Tank after Warrior and Darkknight, that uses Swords like the Darkknight (Even though they are Katanas).
If Samurai would be a thing, than please make him a DD, so we have at least one Bi-Handed DD.
As Tank I would like to see a Vikings charakter with two one hand axes. A direction that would be unique in the XIV Universe and would fit great, due to no, one Handed Axe in the game currently.
For Ranged I could see a Red- or Blue Mage.
For the story introduction, we could be part of a War between a state of Asien Warriors (Job class Samurai) that fights a state of Vikings (Job Class Berserker).
A viking with two axes ?
Stop smoking carpets XD. Vikings fight with a one-handed sword (that you can find to the immortal npc vendor) or one handed-axe, and one little ring shield ( a "targe" in french). Maybe they used the Francisque too like the Merovingians but it's a weapon we throw before unsheathing the blade.
Well... a shield is still a weapon. It could be very cool to have a DD with combo that alternates between axe/sword and shield blow. FF is much more inspirated by the Nordic mythology than the far-east.
Sure i enjoy to play ninja. The job is really well design but it would have been really more interesting to play a kind of arabian magical warrior to suit better to this universe.
I mean tall and big guys with two-handed weapons, europeans blade, enormous shields, Druids, Alchemist, "Cowboys" and.... Ninjas ?
And now you ask for Samurais ??
I hope for SAM and RDM to be released as "hybrid jobs". I think Yoshi P already mentionned being interested in such a concept. Jobs that would be able to fully switch between two roles before entering a duty. Like there is in a lot of other MMOs, different "specs". In that case, it would be completely OK if SAM had access to both tank and DPS specs, and RDM healer and DPS. Let's be imaginative. I'd love to have that in XIV. Currently character evolution is more linear than FFXIII. You have absolutely nothing to choose, you're not involved at all. Even with gear, you only have the choice between 2 sets of the max ilvl at end-game with only super weak secondary stat choices and that's it. I want to at least see specs. Even if they don't want talent trees or shit like that, at least give us specs for some jobs. SAM and RDM would be the ideal first candidates for such an integration.
Currently FFXIV is super limited, scripted and linear in every concept it has. Let's break some barriers.
