    So Why Don't Paladins Have...

    Spinning Shield?

    You know, the AoE Stun ability that the Moogle Paladin has in Thornmarch? The one that would give us awesome utility and generally be Really Cool (TM)?

    Just a passing thought. Would be an excellent addition to the PLD kit, and we have precedent for it (that, and Spirits Without, but that's a different can of worms).

    Considering our stun has no cooldown and is the longest stun duration in the game, giving us an AoE stun on top of that would be crazy. I'd also be yelling at WHMs since they'd push stun immunity on all targets before I even get a chance to use it. >.>

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.

    Doesn't need to stun, could paci for maybe 1s (or perform some other function...), and act as an alternative to Swipe.

    Properly balanced, and it could give PLDs a choice of AoEing or dealing single target damage when blocking.


    Just throwing that idea out there.

    There's also 2 different boss-type fates in Churning Mist where the enemy is a sword and board Mog who use Spinning Mogshield.

    It's added salt in the wound if you're leveling PLD in that zone.

    If theory PLD had Spinning Shield (Radius AoE attack + stun), I don't see the issue with that stun part. Like said, it's diminishing returns so there's not much exploit of that, plus fits in with the shock trooper CC focus that GCD provided Stun that Shield Bash provides.

    Really the issue I think would be more that it shouldn't be a GCD ability with TP cost, since that is diving into WAR's realm of Bloodbath + OP spam on large groups. If PLD had another AoE, I think it'd either have to be magical or be oGCD physical + recast like Circle of Scorn.

    Paladin stun may have the longest duration, but in my opinion it is the least reliable to pull off since its on GCD. You either have to be lucky with the timing, or sitting on your cool downs doing nothing in preparation to using it. I would prefer them to take it off the GCD even if it means lowering the duration.

    WAR and DRK stuns on the other-hand are oGCD...

    Same reason monks dont have hundred fists. Yes there is a mob in the game that uses it, but just because a mob uses something doesnt mean the player should get it. And vise-versa, there are plenty of skills we get that mobs don't.

    Shield Bash cost us 150 TP to use, imagine a AOE Stunning move, that would just suck up our TP in 2-3 moves T_T

    to give it a stun and damage the stun duration would have to be 1 sec and the damage potency low.
