Excerpts from Adventures in Tanking, from a moonlighting DRK/PLD:

- Twice now, I've been in Xelphatol, since it went from Expert Roulette to Level 60 Roulette in January. Twice now, I've had newbies. That's cool. Except that in this second run, I saw DPS so horrendous, Garuda was summoned 4 times at the last boss. And that was with a SCH DPSing their heart out. It's rare that I actually put on Sword Oath to DPS while I'm tanking, but this run took over half an hour.

- I finally saw it: the legendary pugilist who never gets a single stack of Greased Lightning throughout an entire dungeon! To make things even better, it was Copperbell Mines! And if you're wondering why I carried that deadweight all the way through, I don't know why. I just don't know anything anymore. I think all my brain cells are dead now.

I've been running summoner and black mage for roulettes lately and it's so much easier to melt mobs and manage my resources than when i was running my main the drg!!

Had a clutch moment in Dun Scaith yesterday. We were at Ultima and people were dropping left and right. I got absolutely destroyed because someone who had been marked was standing in the middle, and when I tried to get out I ended up running in the same direction as them... OTL I was laughing though because they died too hahaha! I get raised right as the aether collectors appear and LB one as soon as I'm up. The other alliances didn't LB though, and alliance B was mostly dead. As we finish off the final aether collector, I am just looking at Ultima's cast bar and am ready to wipe. Even though myself and two NINs from the other alliances are LBing, we're practically missing an alliance's worth of damage. And this is what happened:

No, they clearly left.

This PLD could not keep hate at all. Wasn't using shield oath, wasn't doing his enmity combo (I know I saw a riot blade here and there), I asked if he knew his enmity combo, asked him to put on shield oath... nothing. I tanked that boss about a third of the way down before dying. The tank barely lasted 10 seconds once he got hate back. Afterwards someone voted abandon and it thankfully ended.

I would have summoned Topaz and just upped the stakes with my "tank" pet.

30 minute Sohm Al HM, DPS was so bad that I was out of Grit the whole time to help speed things up, healer didn't DPS, DPS were pulling <1k DPS while together I did more DPS than them as a tank. I can't believe the skill level of this game sometimes just baffles me that DPS can do less damage than they did in BCOB in ilvl 270.

Had a Void Ark run where someone decided to join in as a Conjurer. Yes, the class. But what was even better was when someone pointed out that said conjurer was out dpsing both tanks and one of the BLMs in their party. Sometimes I think having in game parsers would be a good thing.

I hate POTD. I really hate it. But my FC mates have a said on multiple occasions that they wished a healer would have been there in their group. So I thought to myself, yeah let's join as healer to level up CNJ! Except every signle time I join, I get put with 2-3 other healers?? Is this some kind of trick SE? Are you doing this to me on purpose??

The last one I did, one of the healers left immediately(I feel you, man) and the other, a freaking MENTOR wasn't doing any dps, was barely healing, kept running off and getting mobs on themselves, and then eventually got us killed when we went to help them out AGAIN and they ran off and triggered a lure trap.
